Dinner at the Joshua House was outstanding. It is the best meal I have had in a long time, better than meals in my Northern Virginia hometown. The presentation as well as the service was superb. The chef was trained in England, one of his internships completed at Buckingham Palace. Harrisonburg is very lucky to have this chef as he could go just about anywhere and be successful. I highly recommend stopping in for dinner if you are in the area.

My wife and I very much enjoyed our recent dinner at Joshua Wilton House. The quality of the cooking is quite high, with both duck breast and filet mignon cooked exactly as requested, and the crab beignet appetizer and the crème brûlée for dessert among the best dishes we have had in ages. Clam chowder and a green salad with gorgonzola and bacon were also outstanding, and a cut above similar dishes elsewhere in the area. Pre-dinner cocktails were well-prepared by the knowledgeable and skilled bartender. The high-ceilinged dining rooms, with white table cloths and comfortable chairs, are lovely as is the intimate bar area. Considering the high quality, the good wines by the glass, and the prix fixe offers available, the prices are reasonable for a special dinner out. Service is friendly and accommodating as well. Even though we live an hour away, we definitely plan to return soon.

Joshua Wilton House is one of our favorite “Date Night” restaurants and this past time was no exception! Ben did an excellent job serving and was very knowledgeable. Drink menu is great, appetizer and entree selections are great and will fit most preferences. We got the charcuterie board, filet and scallops. All were excellent! Great flavor, cooked to perfection. Can't wait to go back!

The crab beignets were delicate and delicious. A perfect appetizer. We both had the rockfish that was perfectly prepared and presented. The raspberry sorbet was a light but nice ending. The ambience is lovely, too rare these days. Room had several tables but very quiet. I can't remember our server's name but she represented everything positive about the food and service. This was our second dinner here but we will return soon!

Exceptional food and service! Really enjoyed SJ, she was delightful and made some incredible drinks. The best we've had! Thank you for a memorable evening! Looking forward to our next visit.

Ambience and service are five star. Food was fine but not worth the price tag. The restaurant was quiet until the room had more diners and it did become a little noisy but manageable. Beautiful building and the staff really were wonderful.

The wait staff was very kind and allowed us to move our table because of rowdy- and having a good time ? - table next to us. My husband and I wanted to have a quiet and romantic evening for our Valentines Day dinner. Service and food were excellent.

Wonderful, enchanting old-fashioned service. When they called to confirm the reservation we let them know the dinner was in Celebration of Chinese New Year. We were promptly greeted with a Happy Chinese New Year. Staff was friendly and our server, Paula was magnificent with great recommendations. Service was quick to fill water glasses and attend to needs before asking. Crab Beignets - Creamy and crabby which offset the crunchy pastry puffs. Delicious with the Joshua Wilton salad as recommended by Paula. Salad was divine. The best ever. Plated beautifully with just the right amount of seasoning and crunch. I enjoyed the scallops with green beans. All delicious with the green beans almondine the BEST I have ever had. I could have just eaten that for dinner. Scallops were so plentiful I couldn't finish - but big and delicate done perfectly. My dinner companion had the white fish that was grand too as we shared tastes. Focaccia was notable as well. What was especially neat was you got a clear sense of the Tom French's (Executive Chef) vision from how the food was presented and how the flavors and textures went together. You don't always get that sense - but his personality shone through. Personally, I think he should come our hourly and bow, and then we throw confetti on him. Or maybe we kneel and kiss his ring while polishing Jason Buby's shoes and laying flowers at Amy Mercer's feet. Despite the $$$ designation, dinner is more than reasonable given the service and attention to the food which is extremely labor intensive. As usual, the liquor, wine, afters can add to your bill but no more than any other restaurant in the area. So I encourage you to indulge! A must consideration for a special date - just make sure you make your reservations far in advance.

*Needed some soft music to help with ambience. * when front door opens it gets cold really quickly not sure what could be done about that. Over all a 10 out of 10 *Chef is beyond outstanding!!! * these comments are in no way to be taken as critical we loved our experience the only way to know how to improve is for someone to be honest.

My short stay here was delightful. I arrived late, and during a snow storm, they were so nice in getting me in promptly. The room was so cozy and inviting. Beautifully decorated throughout the inn. Breakfast provided by Bill was fit for a queen including candlelight. Bill was so helpful in my Virginia adventure. Wish I could stay longer. ❤️Rooms: Very clean and comfortable. I ordered Fish Special and my wife ordered Filet well done. (she doesn't like fish) Order came out and her steak was cooked Rare, extremely red inside. Needless to say we ate in shifts and not together. I wasn't asked with mine could be kept warm while steak was cooked more? Most likely fish would have been over cooked so I just ate mine. When her steak was cooked it was black - Chard on the outside. Very dry for being $35 Filet. Apology was offered by service, but no management or chief came to our table and no reduction in cost was offered but the full price for our inconvenience and special anniversary meal. Very disappointed!

We have always been happy with everything in the past. This time one of us had the fish dish. It was not good. The fish was over cooked, very dry with almost no flavor. The crab meat on top was also over broiled with burnt crust. It was over priced for what it was. Even though the steak was very good it was also overpriced at $47.00.

This place is awesome. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. It’s the only fine dining option in town, but it’s so good. Pricey, but well worth it. The rooms are big, and very comfortable. The service is excellent. They are very accommodating, and really go above and beyond. It’s a great place for a quiet celebration.Rooms: Large, and comfortable.Food & drinks: World class food, with excellent drink options.
