We've been here a few times - we like how fun it is. The ingredients are fresh, the price is reasonable, and the chefs are super talented.

Food and staff was excellent
My family and myself went for my mother’s birthday and coming in the serving staff were talking and laughing about their customers. After we were seated and in the process of ordering our food a roach came out from under the dishes walking across the table. They tried to shush us about it and tried to act like we were wrong about the roach still visibly moving around on the table and made its way on one of the plates. The manager moved us to another table without saying anything about it. They asked if we wanted our plates or new ones. All in all we decided to leave and went elsewhere to eat.
A wonderful place for the entire family, though best enjoyed by the older kids 😜 Surprise, delight, and well-prepared food are what you can expect from this mystical experience! Also, great staff! I highly recommend.

I hate writing reviews like this but I had to share. I’ve been telling my husband that I’ve wanted to go here for years when we visit JMU - but it’s never worked out. We finally got to go this year and it was awful. We got seated right away but it took 20 minutes to get drinks ordered and then 45+ minutes before the chef ever showed up to our table. The chef was good and the food was tasty (although the salad was slimy) but we were so tired of sitting there that we immediately got boxes and our check and headed to the hotel. The worst part - we were both up all night with upset stomachs and Kyoto was the only food we had eaten.

A very good hibachi grill. Some of the best and most skilled cooks!

Waited 40 minutes for the table which was fine but then had to wait another 40 minutes for a chef once seated. Waitress spilled some of the drinks. Chef started cooking the food and forgot to give my wife her rice so we had to wait for that to come (about 15 minutes) since he moved on to the meat(s) and it was a very small dish of rice compared to what he prepared for the rest of our table then the chef cleans everything up everything and ask if everything was ok and I had to tell him he never gave me my steak (ordered steak and shrimp) so he had to go to the back to get the steak and come back and cook it. The manager/owner finally brings over our appetizer when we were just about done with our meal ?? . The only good thing was the taste of the food. arrived at 6:43pm didn't leave until 9:15 pm and there was no time wasted talking, everyone was over the experience by the time the bill came. I haven't been there in over 20 years and it was my wife's first time. We will not return.

This used to be my favorite restaurant. We would come here all the time and for every type of celebration. Sadly I think those days are over now. The prices have skyrocketed, the portions have gotten smaller, they now charge you almost $3 to get extra yum yum sauce, and it no longer comes with soup. I was always willing to spend the money coming here because the food used to be worth it; it no longer is. We will be going to Sakura from now on; much better prices and quality.

Food, my opinion, was good but missing something.. Service was fast and attentive.. Atmosphere was ok... Had dinner here on a Monday night, I was the only person in the restaurant. Service and Atmosphere scores may be different on a busy night.

I didn't do hibachi this time, but had sushi which was excellent! Still sat at a hibachi table though as my friend did order it and enjoyed the show as always. I've been here many times and plan on coming back many more.

This was the most nastiest place I’ve been too. The servers could not get our order right for nothing, my drink had something floating in it. The clear soup looked as if it was poisoned. Then our cook was AWFUL he dropped the oil bottle into our food he just kept banging the silverware and not really a show like I thought. ALL FOR 80 dollar. I recommend you take a 45 min drive to Charlottesville and got to Sakura, it’s wayyyy better than here and worth the money
