As hotel guests, we didn’t know of other breakfast options within walking distance, and we needed to get on the road. The breakfast buffet has decent choices, but I felt that the food quality should be better in this lovely hotel. Scrambled eggs had an odd metallic taste, which didn’t improve with ketchup. Sausage was greasy and oddly flavored. Buttermilk biscuits were so salty that they made me thirsty. Fruit was generally underripe. Coffee was pretty good though, and that’s important to me. .

I have eaten here before and had a wonderful experience, last night was not! My boys all loved their food, they had the Italian meatloaf, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken sandwich, grilled. However, we paid 30 dollars for the spaghetti and meatballs and the plate should have been on the kids menu. It was so small. Kid sized, although good, way too expensive! Husband got the wings 5/10 for a rating. Let’s move on to my order. I got a basic house salad with the seared tuna as an added protein. Salad came out minus the tuna. Waiter said he forgot the tuna and took my salad back. By the time I got it back, everyone was 3/4 finished their meal. Tuna was grey and smelled really off, was not natural in color, it definitely was not fresh. I thought it may have been me but everyone agreed! I decided to give it a chance. One bite and I had to spit it out. Meal was over before the waiter ever came to see how our food was, I had to finally call him over. He asked if I wanted something else on the salad but at this point everyone was finished and I still had not eaten, so I said no. I wasn’t going to wait 30 minutes for a salad with another protein We asked for water refills at the end and they never came. They did take it off my bill because I never touched the salad, one small bite of the tuna. Overall it was just not their best night. I will go back because I have had good food and a pleasant experience.

Went to celebrate a special occassion and ended up with the worst meal I have ever had in Harrisonburg. (1) The waiter went to fill our glasses with Processco, and ended up overflowing one glass and hardly putting any in another.(2) The pork chop was dry, tasteless, and difficult to chew. (3) The rice was not cooked, so some was crunchy/uncooked. (4) The underside of the dishes was dirty. (5) The vegetables of the day were not as described (different vegetables). (6) The house salad was just a stack of lettuce with some onions and yellow tomatoes; dressing was forgotten on the strawberry salad. The service was poor. I love the food at everywhere else I have eaten in Harrisonburg, so this was quite a surprise/disappointment.

Our table was in a high traffic area behind(!) the register/work area. Half the tables were not being used. Could have swapped one out. Shouldn’t even be a table in the spot we occupied. Steak was good. Mashed potatoes were cold. I would have ordered a salad but the waiter didn’t ask. Wine was very good. Service was inattentive. (Maybe just too busy). Three stars was generous.

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Montpelier Restaurant and Bar for Valentine's Day, and it was an absolute delight. We consider ourselves foodies of local restaurants, joking that it's our hobby, and Monty's truly exceeded our expectations. The food was exceptional, showcasing flavors that left us craving more. But what truly stood out was the impeccable service. Despite my pregnancy limiting my cocktail options, the staff went above and beyond to craft a special mocktail that still felt festive. I even broke my no-leftovers rule because the dishes were just too good to leave behind. The kitchen graciously provided extra sauce for my meal, ensuring that I could enjoy it just as much at home. It took everything in me not to lick my plate in the restaurant! Their attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction left a lasting impression. Needless to say, we'll be returning with friends and family in tow. Highly recommended!

I found the service excellent, the space very nice, the food was ok, the dessert, which we took to go, was absolutely inedible. We also had asked to move to a quieter corner and they did move us, however, they asked the ladies sitting next to us to move to our spot to keep a 4 top open, that was never used. I felt terrible for asking to move then. We only wanted to move because of my hearing aids.

My food, an Autumn gnocchi fusion was really good and our two appetizers (nachos and the brussel sprouts) were excellent. My brother's chicken was overdone and I think others at our table of 7 weren't universally ecstatic but overall the food was excellent, IMHO.

Some friends and I drove over from Charlottesville on November 1st to attend a program at the Forbes Theater. We made reservations at Monty's, at my suggestion. We wanted to grab a bite before the 8 pm show. Some of the food was actually inedible. My fries were so greasy and heavily salted, that I did not eat most of them. The same for my two friends. One of my friends ordered a chicken sandwich that he said the same thing about.--overly salted. He did not eat most of it. Salt preferences are varied due to both taste and health concerns. Salt can always be added at the table by the diner, but it cannot be removed. The kitchen staff should be made aware of this and stop adding so much that people grimace when we bite into our food.

Good location. The food was good. The fish and chips were just OK. I would not order them again. The fries were not what I was expecting, more like fried potatoe wedges that were undercooked.

Definitely a great hotel restaurant but still it’s a hotel restaurant. That being said the food was very good. The atmosphere was a little different when we went but could have just been a slow night.
