Amazing crab fritters! Chicken and waffles was great also. Definitely will come back.
Don’t bypass this place! The variety of delicious choices is amazing! Easy comfy atmosphere! Ask for Kelly … tell her you heard it from me! Any time up that way I eat there at least once! … never disappointed.
The service was great, the food was delicious, the portion sizes were large. We were traveling through the area. This was a really nice break from fast food. I would recommend The Mason Jar as a place to get a terrific meal.
After a great day in Mt. Airy, we were looking for dinner at a non-chain restaurant that was open later in the evening as we drove north into Virginia. The Mason Jar got great reviews on Trip Advisor, so we headed that way. It was a little difficult to find as it’s in a shopping center, and it looks pretty non-descript from the outside, labeled as a restaurant and sports bar. Inside, it had a nice vibe with a great mural, colorful mason jars everywhere, and pretty fall decorations and string lights. The staff was friendly, and the menu had lots of choices with decent prices for this day & time. My husband ordered the hamburger steak plate, and I ordered the country fried chicken plate, both with mashed potatoes and green beans. When our plates arrived, we realized this was not typical sports bar food…just wow!! Everything was absolutely delicious. My husband said it might be the best hamburger steak & brown gravy he’s ever had, and my CFS and white gravy was scrumptious! The mashed potatoes were homemade, and the green beans were sautéed and seasoned so nicely like you’d find in a much more expensive restaurant. (We had really expected canned green beans.) The portions were generous, and we savored and enjoyed every bite! The only two negative things we would mention is that we were asked if we’d like gravy on our mashed potatoes, to which we both said yes, and were then charged $1.00 extra each for it. If your entree comes with gravy, which they did, we don’t feel you should be charged, and we weren’t told that we would be. Secondly, the music from the adjoining bar was very loud with lyrics in almost every song that were not acceptable for little ears. We didn’t mind (although would have rather had a quieter atmosphere for such a nice meal), but it might not be a family friendly location later in the evening. (To be fair, it was a Saturday night after 8:00, so that might not be the case earlier in the day.) All in all, our experience here was fantastic, and we’ll definitely visit again if in the area.
The food was ok, but spectacular but not bad. I had a Cobb salad with chicken. A little dry but still good. My husband had hamburger steak with green beans and mashed potatoes. The green beans were wonderful, potatoes were good and the hamburger steak was a little overcooked and the gravy was very salty. But the real issue was the service. While they were friendly enough (not overly but certainly not rude), it was VERY slow. They seated us right away because they weren’t full (8 tables there) but it took forever to come back and take our order and again for the food to come. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back, but if I happened to be in the area and needed a meal maybe.
Its not a bad place for a dinner as they have a seating area and a bar area. I didn't see anyone at the time of my visit in the seating area. My average review stems from the singles elderly vibe i was getting from the place. I feel like if your 50 or 60 than this is the place to be any day of the week since how its reasonable to think everyone is retired. They all seem to be enjoying themselves, playing pool and listening to the 70s to 90s country music witch is great but just not for me. Asides that, I thought the food pricing was slightly elevated a little more than it should be just giving my experiences in similar environments, its sorta rural location, and the type of food and quality of the food itself. Example; mac and cheese is considered a premium side. Its reasonable to assume that it must be baked or crumbled or something but no. Its just Mac and cheese. I tested the bars patience and the bartender was great and friendly inspite of me sitting at the bar drinking Pepsi (no alcoholic beverages) and drilling him with menu questions and uncertainty. I would rate the service a 10, he did very well! CONCLUSION; Its a great place for maybe friends to play pool and hang out, Its a great place for the older generation, its not a good vibe for a single man or woman between 20s to 40s, Its not an idea place for a first date and its not idea for something cheap when your hungry. Its not bad but it didn't offer an experience, not good or bad.
We enjoyed a lovely dinner here, couples trip and everyone had something different. It was good. The menu was varied and the service was great.
I suggested this place to my husband after reading the reviews. He missed the exit and wasn’t going to turn around. I said let’s do and he fussed the whole time…lol…Now he’s glad we went back. Says he has eaten a lot of steaks and this is the best he has had. We live four hours away and he is already planning to come back. I had the Reuben sandwich and it was great. Wonderful waitress named Kristen. Excellent service.
The food was awesome and so was the service The place could use a little updating but we don't go there to judge someplace by its looks. Great place to go and grab some good food and drinks!

Oh my goodness, the fried chicken was absolutely incredible! And the portions? Huge! Just a heads up, it can get a bit lively, especially if you're near the bar area – it's definitely got that fun sports bar vibe. We travel between Pennsylvania and Florida a lot, and we've already decided this is going to be our must-stop dinner spot from now on!

Very rude waitress; got accused of having a fake ID. Waitress also took photos of our ID with her personal phone. We left without getting anything.

I have performed at the Mason Jar twice, but I'm leaving this review as a regular guest since that is how I was treated. Many times, artists are simply ignored or tolerated as we set up and play, but this spot checked on us, served us food during our break when they were SLAMMED, kept my water glass full, and was just super friendly and welcoming to every guest, not just us. Their sweet security guy actually helped us load out without being asked!! The food was great (try the wings!!), the bar staff is energetic and fun, and the vibe here is simply awesome! I love this place and can't to go back as a singer AND as a customer!! The Mason Jar has my heart <3
