This jewel of a restaurant is nestled north of Orange, Virginia. We sat in the back with a glass of wine and were treated to an exceptional view of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the fall. The house itself is nineteenth century, decorated with tasteful understatement, and had two lovely fires going on a very cold evening. Our dinners--scallops and beef---were delicious and perfectly prepared and were the starters (butternuts squash bisque) and desserts (cheesecake and chocolate pot). Julie was our hostess and made every request easily handled. We did not stay at the rooms in the inn, but will definitely try that next time: they look lovely. This was a great discovery for us.

We enjoyed our meal, as always, and will return again and again. The combination of excellent service, delicious food and beautiful historic setting make for a perfect dining experience. Truly an enjoyable and delicious experience. Again, we will return as often as we can.

Terrific chef making delicious dishes like duck confit and grilled sea scallops accompanied by well made local wines - a red blend of cabernet franc and petit Verdot, a Viognier that was crisp and lingering fruit. I will return.

Honestly, it makes me sad to share this review. My husband and I stayed at Meander on our wedding night 20 years ago, and returned prior to 2017 for another anniversary. We were excited to make a new memory, but were disappointed to see the disrepair, dirt, and tacky atmosphere. The summer kitchen, where we'd stayed in 2005, had visible broken blinds and the brick walkway up to the house was borderline dangerous, many bricks needed replacing or repointing. When we got inside, there was a notice on the wall about poor water quality on site. The indoor formal dining room where we'd planned to eat was empty, and all guests were being encouraged to eat outside, where there was loud radio music playing (pop/rock). Not the vibe we wanted. The staff, who were very nice, let us know that we could be seated whenever we liked. We chose to have a glass of wine and watch the sunset before eating. The sunset was great, but the only wine options were from Virginia, which was off-putting. When we decided to be seated, we were the only people in the dining room, but the door to the kitchen was either removed or wide open, so there was tons of noise and the staff were visible, hurriedly trying to serve more customers than they were equipped for. Service was slow and the tableware was cheap. I had a moth in my water, which the server didn't seem to flinch about. My fork had some old food caked on it and I asked for it to be replaced, so the server started to grab another exposed fork from a table setting nearby. I asked to have something sanitized from the kitchen. Five minutes later, I was able to start eating my meal--a nice looking plate of sea scallops, which, although not consistent in cook, looked appetizing. I bit into a scallop and the crunch from the sand was outstanding. Every. Single. One. Grits were underseasoned, but well cooked. When we got our check, the server said our drinks would be comped due to the issues--but they only comped our Perrier, not the wine. HA.

Attended the Sunday Supper. The food was delicious and at a very good price! We went early and had a tour of the common rooms of the inn and learned about it's history with the owner before dinner. Loved it and will definitely be back!

A charming establishment with pleasant staff, phenomenal food, and views to match. Prix fixe and ala carte options accommodate a range of palates and dietary restrictions, and are refreshed regularly.

Not sure how I have missed this place, well actually I do...lol....I have no idea they served the public, I thought it was only for those staying in the bed and breakfast!!! What an incredible find. We were well taken care of thanks to Chandra and the rest of the staff.

I have lived here for 3.5 years and have probably driven by The Meander Inn, hummm 400 times at least. I truly had no idea they serve the public for breakfast and dinner until I visited their website! They also offer locals 10% off! We had an incredible breakfast in a beautiful setting on Sunday and after seeing their menu, heading back for dinner soon. Chandra is amazing - ask about their picnic basket lunch!!

Sunday supper here was a delight! We dined on the porch and had beautiful views. The food was delicious and the service impeccable! After supper, we walked the grounds with our two dogs. What an amazing property. We will be back in the future to stay in one of the cottages on the property.

The chef knows her stuff! The food was perfect. Friendly service staff as well. Sat outside in the natural setting. This might be my new Mother's Day weekend go-to from here on out.
