Honestly I have always loved this bakery. Their Raspberry donuts are some of my favorite. I stopped by today for the first time in a year or so and I am blown away at the difference in the donut quality. They don’t have any real flavor to them at all. One of the smaller round donuts that should have had filling was empty. Very sad to see the quality this poor.

The sweets are very delicious. But the problem is ordering cakes. I ordered a sheet cake and two baby cakes for my birthday.I been waiting and thinking about my cake for a whole week on the email. My wife got the alert in her email about the cake I was so happy when she got it. When we got there this morning it was disappointment. All I got was 2 baby cakes and we didn't get the sheet cake. My wife didn't get any email alert from you all until the weekend and she checked her email every day. If you all are having problems with the email then you should have called. You had my wife's phone number and we can't call you because it goes right to voicemail. Now I'm just out of a birthday cake. I will not order a birthday cake online again. I'm very very disappointed. I'm 48 today and I have been going there since I was young.

Called all around town, being told my order was impossible or too expensive till I was driving by after work and saw this place that I thought was an abandoned building all my life of living here. I went called and online and filled out the form now, knowing they were still in business. My request was taken and executed perfectly. We wanted a half carrot half German chocolate cake decorated in the corresponding icing flavors and colors you'd get if you were to make a whole of each cake traditionally. Everything was perfect. Even down to the writing being in a perfect shade of baby blue that worked with the color of the chocolate and white icing (not to dark nor light) and the drawings of the chef utensils were just what we wanted. We were so happy to have an amazing cake for our surprise party. And more importantly, something great to give as a kind gesture to someone who deserved it. 100/10 still gets pastries from there
I just had an amazing pb brownie and it brought me back to the late 90’s and getting pb brownies here. So good. I miss them.

HumanKind had their Gratitude Day celebration yesterday and we used Chestnut Hill for all our desserts. We had cookies, brownies, doughnuts, dessert bars, and my favorite, cream puffs. They were a huge hit with our employees. We had so many boxes to pick up, that one was overlooked. They graciously brought it to us before our event started. They were professional and friendly.

This used to be the place to go for awesome baked items. Sadly, this was not the case on my last visit.
We stopped by on Saturday 10/12/24. We got several of the small cream puffs. The filling was very runny like a yellow liquid that had little to no flavor. Typically there is a thicker viscosity similar to a pudding. When we picked them up from the box, the bottom fell out and was mushy. The filling had a sour smell. I would expect them to be good through the next day or so. I've never felt the need to ask when they were made until now. This is sad because I would think that the staff would know that they were soggy when they were placed in the box. Perhaps they just don't care? Again, I've never felt the need to check my order before paying . . . . ah that's right they wont let you touch them until you pay. I can now see why.
The honey bun was tough, and even with a few seconds in the microwave it just didn't feel or taste fresh at all. Also took home several flavors of the brownies that weren't fresh at all.
Perhaps Saturday is their purge day for items that have been on the rack festering all week? If that's the case maybe they should be sold as that or at a discounted price. I know many may special order items and this may be the way to go to obtain freshness. An excited trip for goodies, left a bad taste in our mouth (pun intended).
In the spirit of Halloween, this was for sure a trick and not a treat!

The last one was quite literally the cutest cake I've ever seen! It's not just the affordable price, they are the best flavored cakes I've ever had! Stop by bakery couple weeks ago and got a coconut custard pie when I got home and cut me a piece O was a little shocked because it didn't look like a coconut custard pie it was so yellow I mean bright yellow almost a orange color to it and it didn't taste too good.i have brought several coconut custard pies from chest nut hill bakery over my life time and this is the first time I didn't like it it didn't even taste like coconut custard pie.I was really disappointed because coconut custard pies are my favorite don't know what happened don't no if their doing their pies different than before but something definitely was wrong with the one I got .

Customers can order custom items. Service is friendly and quick. This is a small and unassuming bakery. It should be added to your Lynchburg pastry list if it isn’t already.
