The restaurant is in a historic building with good ambience. Went for lunch, $50 for two without appetizer, alcohol or dessert. The burger was overdone and waffle and chicken greasy. While the building is nice and there is adequate parking (notable for a downtown location), the unfinished parking area needs significant work. The staff were pleasant, attentive and responsive which is the only reason, if I needed to go again, I’d do it and try dessert and coffee.

The Depot Grille was the most interesting of Lynchburg's downtown choices, with a lively crowd, funky decor and (as we chose) outdoor dining overlooking the railway and a corner of the park on a beautiful evening. The menu is extensive; the food portions were ample and reasonably priced. In fact, too ample: including two sides and a salad with the main course was overkill, and the server came offering dessert (and when declined, the bill) when we were about halfway through the dishes before us, though obviously slowing down. The service was prompt and friendly. Both of us found the food tasted good, but nothing special. An excellent evening, but not a restaurant to which I'd make a detour for the food.

I think the cooks are afraid of seasoning. Nothing had flavor, if you wanted flavor you find it in a sauce. Wife's order was wrong but they fixed it. We had the oysters, wings, salmon and burger. A little seasoning goes a long way.

Was sat down and then completely ignored for 10 minutes sitting with no drinks or anything. We also saw multiple waitresses double check tables next to us and not ask us anything. Completely ignored. It wasn't that busy either. Left after waiting. Won't be coming back. Also there was a football sized pile of feces right outside the restaurant. Looked human.

Excellent service and the ribs are something in the menu that you have to try if you find yourself here! The drinks are amazing to compliment the evening out!

Very nice food !

Id highly recommend the ribs but go for the half rack as they are huge, my brother had chicken tenders which were also very nice

Service was great, only downside was that the A/C was very cold but that was a minor issue

There is plenty of free parking nearby

Amazing service from start to finish. Arrived at 6:30 on a busy Friday evening and our group of 7 was wowed by the service, atmosphere and food! So glad we chose Depot Grille for one of our 2 evenings in Lynchburg.

We had a delicious late lunch outside on the patio. A lunch special of chicken ranch tacos was excellent, as well as the spinach artichoke dip.

we visited the Depot Grille over Labor Day weekend 2025, on our way home to break up the long drive. The fajita roll up and the French dip with added toppings were really good. The staff was friendly and the vibe was fun. Everyone from kids to elderly folks seemed to be enjoying themselves. We walked to the river island afterward, and on the way back I took this picture to show that the kitchen of this restaurant appears to be in some old railroad cars!
