Went for Thanksgiving. It was the first time I visited White Dog Bistro. I joined old friends for dinner. The waitress was so pleasant and on top of her game. Her smile was infectious, and she was very attentive. 6 of my friends ordered the Seafood Au Gratin while 2 of us ate the traditional Turkey and Ham dinner. I started with the Lobster Bisque, which was delicious, so I had high hopes for the rest of the dinner to come. But as it turned out, the turkey dinner was pretty disappointing. While the turkey was perfectly cooked and very juicy, the mashed potatoes were watery, the ham was just OK, the sweet potatoes tasted off, and the dressing was undercooked reminding me of half cooked bread dough. The green beans, rolls, gravy, and cranberries were made perfectly, so the whole dinner was very unbalanced between delicious and not so delicious. My friends loved the Seafood Au Gratin, and they loved the desserts (I skipped dessert), so I was really disappointed I didn't enjoy my Thanksgiving dinner. I'm inclined to believe the food is typically delicious at White Dog Bistro based on my friends' past reviews and excitement to eat there again. I might give the Bistro another try since the amazing staff and ambiance helped me enjoy being with friends.

Apparently, the owners of White Dog Bisto took offense to this review. They didn't try to contact me. They didn't respond to my review asking to talk about it. What they did was contact the person who reserved the table where I sat. How they connected me to her is a mystery and suspect. Maybe they took my description of the food served at my table and searched the reservations to find the person who made the reservations, but no one was mentioned in the review by name so they had to do research to find her. Why not contact me directly through this review? By being underhanded, the owners have now instigated friction into my friendship with the person who made the reservation. Who behaves that way after high school? Causing problems in a friendship because you don't like my review is an immature move. I don't know what was said to my friend by the owners, but it was enough to make my friend mad at me and take my review personally. If I could rate this kind of underhanded behavior from a business, I'd absolutely change the 3 star to a lower star and change the 5 stars I gave for service to a much lower star as well. Instead, I'll stick by my original review on the experience and staff from that day. Just know the behavior after the review has damaged a friendship, cost White Dog Bistro a customer, and gives me plenty to share with other people about how the owners do business. I thought hard about relaying this extra added bonus behavior the owners of the restaurant have given me for the Holidays. I have no doubt they'll call my angry friend and tattle on me for calling them out in this update. But I think anyone who might have an issue with any part of their White Dog Bistro experience should know there's a huge chance the owners will come after you for being honest, even if it means causing friction between friends. PS. I take back the part of the review that says I may go back and try a different dish. That's definitely not happening.

Mr Bastidas is totally wrong in his review of White Dog Bistro since I was there also on Thanksgiving! White Dog is fantastic & always has been each time we go there. He should find a restaurant closer to his home vs bashing a restaurant regulars go to. He was a guest in attendance & will not join us again. Anyone that reads his post should ignore the negative comments.

Dinner last night was outstanding. The pork roast was very good and the low country skillet was great. They were both served on grits which were outstanding as were the fresh string beans. The meals were generous with enough left to bring some home and they were beautifully presented. Dessert (chocolate carmel pie with ice cream) was also wonderful. Our waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive. We could not have been more pleased. We will return.

Not only is the food top notch and on the mark every single time, but the people are just so amazing. My family has been going for years and my sister even had her wedding reception here. I recently had my first baby. I asked the staff where I could breastfeed and they allowed us to dine in a more private room so I could feed my baby and still eat with my family. They are so accommodating and kind and my experience there is always quality. If you’re visiting Mathews, you HAVE to try this restaurant.
