The tacos were sloppy ,soaking wet, no flavor!! The pork carnitas were fatty instead of chunks, chicken tacos horrible, wraps hard yet doughie due to extreme wetness! They do not offer more then 1 basket of chips with salsa which os a blower bc i enjoy rhat but it was horrible even if they had offered me more i couldnt have eaten them they were greasy! The prices are entirely too much for the quality of food and service I have never had Spanish food disgust me and make me sick .

If you’re in wintergreen skiing, mountain biking, whatever: Do. Not. Sleep. On this place. If you’re sick of the “burgers and fries” with the breweries around here, let Don Lupe’s give you reprieve. The draft beers I was brought were literally iced on top, the tortillas are homemade, the salsa is fresh, and the service is friendly and attentive. I ordered a molcajete to share and it was Out. Of. This. World. The atmosphere is modest and based on other reviews it might be new to the area, however, the food is made with care and is truly great. It was a relief not to have to make food in a kitchenette to avoid more resort/bar food. Come and try Don Lupe’s and you won’t be disappointed.

Food is excellent and authentic. Nopal and chorizo were great. There's always going to be growing pains opening a business and they are a bit under staffed right now so I'd recommend dining in during off hours.

For Nellysford, this place slaps.
I walked in curious and looking at the menus- very specific to their clientele if we’re being honest. But that was ok- I was stoked to ask for nopales and they have them! Not every spot in Richmond has nopales so that says a lot for a mostly -serving-white-people-establishment. Jalapeño marg was perfect nice and spicy, quesadillas were melty and warm. Exactly what you need after a full day of skiing. Good first impression! They have baked goods at the door don’t miss those. The table salsa is chunky and better than most, the chips could use a change from red-white-blue towards cantina deep gold color. ¡Gracias yall! Hope y’all are around for a while.

The drinks were good, the food was average quality but way overpriced. The 3/5 review is because when I went to pay, the only tip options presented to me were 25%, 30%, and 35%. I had to select custom tip and manually enter in a 20% tip while the server stood over my shoulder and watched.

20% should be the most a server should expect unless they somehow went over the moon for their customers. 35%? Are you serious? You’re not being clever or outsmarting people into tipping you more by forcing them to take more steps to tip 20%. Completely turned me off from coming here again.

Visiting the area and a local put me on to this place. Had the tamales and the fish tacos. Tamales were great, authentic and flavorful. Would definitely reorder. The fish tacos were among the best I've ever had. The fish was flavorful, a little smoky, and obviously grilled. Definitely, a must try!

What a pleasant surprise to find all of the food is made from scratch. I really enjoyed the white salsa keeping a Virginia thing going here in the mountains. All the food was fresh and affordable. Definitely got chips and salsa to go for the cabin.

Truly delicious, they retain the authentic Mexican flavor in each of the dishes we tasted, the truth is that we could not finish with what we ordered because it is very abundant and delicious 1000% recommended.

Should this place be 4.5 stars? Yes. Will the entry experience make you question reality? Also yes.

Rolling up a little after the posted 11 a.m. opening time, I attempted to enter like a normal human. Three locked doors later, I finally found one that let me into the bar, where I was greeted by… absolutely no one. Not a soul. Just me and the faint hum of refrigeration.

Eventually I wandered far enough into the dining room that a man emerged from the kitchen like a friendly NPC. Super warm, super welcoming, immediately sat me down.

I ordered my takeout and sipped a beer. A family came in through the same “secret portal” door I had used. I waved down the waiter (since there were still no staff in this area), who sprang into action and promptly seated them. Moments later, another employee walked in that same door, then locked it behind her, further confusing the entry situation.

Now, onto the food. It took a little longer than typical takeout because, brace yourselves, they actually cook things here! The wait was more than worth it.

We ordered ceviche, queso, guacamole, salsa, crunchy beef tacos, and a shrimp quesadilla. Every single thing tasted fresh, balanced, and intentional, unlike the flavorless B.S. some places have tried to pass off as Mexican over the years. Real and delicious, start to finish.

They’re still ironing out some kinks. Doors, staffing, visibility, general “is this place open or not?” energy. But the food? The service once you find the staff? The actual quality? Don Lupe appears to be on a mission to raise the bar in Nelson.

I am so excited to watch them grow!
