A colleague had tickets to 1609 for New Years Eve Dinner over looking the Colonial Downs Race Track on the 4th floor of Rosies……and the Food, atmosphere and service was remarkable…For The three course menu entree I had encrusted Salmon and the sauce ? wow ..…..was able to meet the Executive Chef Tom when he personally brought my Salmon back to me and loved the desert…was so tasty… ? The service overall was so impeccable and the ambiance of the atmosphere made our New Years Eve Dinner enjoyable…loved the NYE Swag and invitation to the concert even though we could not stay…

Purchased 4 seats in 1609 on a Saturday night. Was not informed that all they served on Saturdays is a prime rib buffet. There is not a disclaimer on line that all they serve is prime rib on Saturdays. If there were, I would not have paid $200 considering that my son is Vegan. We asked if there was a menu and they brought us a bar menu that featured pretzel bites. We asked the staff if we could go to 3rd floor to eat and was told no. I went to 3rd floor and asked if we could eat from their buffet and was told no. We paid out bar tab and traveled to Food for Thought in Williamsburg and enjoyed our dinner.

We greatly enjoyed 1609 at Colonial Downs for atmosphere and food during the horse races in late July and again in late August 2021. We reserved the same table for both of our excursions. Hannah was extremely polite, personable and attentive both times. The colossal meatball which she recommended was delicious: a good combination of meats and perfect sauce.. With that and the bbq chicken sliders (also yummy), we were too full for dessert. The sliders had a wonderful sauce, caramelized onions and tangy slaw. It was simply perfect to have the reserved table. There is a fee for the table which we reserved online in advance. We didn't mind the fee as it gave us excellent access to the shaded balconies to watch the races during the heat of the day..and a base to come back to as we choose to watch some of the races down at the track/rails. Hannah welcomed us back when we returned from being at the track and checked in with us to see if we needed more water, drinks, etc. Overall a fantastic way to spend the day at the horse races AND enjoy excellent food!

1609 Restaurant is possibly the best restaurant in New Kent County. This was our second dinner there and the quality and quantity of the food is exceptional. Amanda, our server, is very personable and attentive without being intrusive. The entire staff is friendly; your are greeted with a smile and warm "hello!". I had the shrimp and grits for dinner. Five large grilled shrimp were tender with a smoky flavor. The grits were well cooked yet firm and not mushy. I had the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. It was a huge serving. The cake was moist and dense with a deep chocolate flavor. Ask for a table at the window overlooking the track. Even when there are no races, the view over the two ponds is wonderful with Canada geese coming and going. I realize this restaurant is at a horse racing track but that takes nothing away from the restaurant. If I could request any changes it would be table cloths and dimmer lighting.

Really really disappointing. Food was cold. Prices were a bit high. Waitress was kind but we had to wait a very long time for each item. Pork shank was way too salty and clearly leftovers from previous evenings. Vegetables tasteless. We opted out on dessert. It's a casino! It is not an inviting restaurant as pictured on open table. Oh, and lots and f cigarette smoke at the entrance. So much so our clothes smelled of tobacco smoke when we got home. They really need to do some major changes.

Patricia and I just had dinner at 1609 Restaurant at Colonial Downs. It is a gem of a restaurant that New Kent County has needed for a very long time. I had the fried oysters as an appetizer followed by crab cakes with green beans and creamed roasted corn. The oysters were crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside with just a hint of heat. The crab cakes were lump crab meat with almost no fillers; just enough to hold them together. Patricia had the apple cider brined chicken and she said it was the best chicken she has ever eaten. I had a taste and it was tender, flavorful and juicy. We shared the buttermilk pie with blueberry compote; excellent choice. Service was excellent; friendly and attentive but not intrusive. What a perfect dinner!

A large group of friends went earlier this month - We spent over $450 dollars - we had to split up the check ourselves and get cash from the ATM machine - by the time a couple of guys paid the ATM "fee" the meal was even more expensive! Good food and service but with the check policy we'll probably spend our $450 dollars somewhere else

Great food option in New Kent. Food quality, presentation, and service were excellent. Limited menu options (surprised to see there was no steak or pasta option). Prices are a bit high. The hourly announcements from Rosie's downstairs were a little annoying. Overall, glad to have an upscale food option in New Kent!

What was advertised as a "Thanksgiving Feast" was far less than that. The paltry portion of turkey featured white meat that tasted a processed and dollop of near-minced dark meat. Gravy tasted like it was from a jar. If there had been some white bread under it, it would have been an adequate open-faced turkey sandwich at a diner. Sides were better--the cheddar grits were delicious as were the homemade mashed potatoes. But overall for $19.99 what we ended up was not a bountiful Thanksgiving feast like what was pictured in the ads, but a diner-quality turkey dinner at a price point well above what a diner should charge. $5 dollar soft drinks just added insult to injury. Service was energetic if inexperienced. She tried hard. The restaurant itself lacks atmosphere. No effort to create a Thanksgiving atmosphere. No effort to make this feel special. Not even tablecloths. I'd have been better off with the excellent burger and fries available downstairs. Very disappointing.

This restaurant has a long way to go in order to reach "casino" style luxury. Didn't mind spending $20 per plate for Thanksgiving dinner BUT what we received was NOT a $20 meal! 6 adults, 1 child ate at a cost of $320 while 6 adults at a Casino in a neighboring state had a 4 star all you could eat buffet for $118! You tell me what's wrong with that picture. While we LOVE Rosie's being available in Virginia we will not return to 1609.

Thank you for a wonderful evening. This was a first experience and our family had different Thanksgiving experiences this year because children had moved away from home. This was the first year our whole family was not together. It felt very different for sure, but we had a great meal and service. Everyone was very nice and polite.
