Friendly staff and service, however, the bbq tastes like whole peppercorns and not smoke and BBQ taste. Maybe some like it like this but its not for me or my family. I would rather the smoke do the talkin and sauce be a welcome surprise rather than WAY TOO MUCH black pepper corn. Pulled pork is hard to screw up and they found a way to do it.

I really wanted to love this place, all of my favorite barbecue comes from a hole in the wall. Unfortunately what I got was not brisket, it was somehow soaking wet and yet dry and tasteless. It looked more like pot roast. Not one to waste food, I gave it to my cat... He walked away from it.

Good bbq and sauces.

Got a couple of pulled pork sandwiches for my husband today and they were straight up banging good…not gonna lie, I probably ate more of his lunch than I should have while driving to his work but, no regrets. The owner was very friendly and helpful, even when my card decided to not be helpful, or useful, or even function in anyway that a card should, but he was very patient and tolerant of all my questions. (Clearly, I’m a talker.) But the food was absolutely amazing and my husband and i are both planning to go back and try the brisket next. Rock on, BBQ peeps! ??

My husband and I tried this yesterday for the first time. We were both excited as we both love BBQ. Unfortunately we both ended up tossing a good bit of our meals. We both got the pulled pork platter. Our BBQ looked completely different. His was a grayish color and had zero seasoning. Mine was dark and had tons of pepper. It almost looked liked they ran out of the seasoned BBQ and just gave him what they could find. The Mac and Cheese lacked flavor and was very dry. We got our order to go, and they put my husbands bread on top of his collards, so it was soaking wet. Just overall not a great experience. The white sauce was good, so if you do try it, I would recommend that over the vinegar sauce. We will not return.

Deserves negative stars but can't review without putting at least one star. My family and I went to this establishment yesterday. I don't know who was cooking the food in the other reviews, but the guy that cooked ours had no clue how to BBQ. My husband does awesome pulled pork, chicken, and a brisket to die for. He does NOT put 2 cups of pepper in any of it, thank goodness. I didn't eat but a bite or two because of all of the pepper in the chicken and the lack of seasoning in the Mac and the rawness of the collards. The six of us tasted nothing but pepper for rest of the day. We will NEVER return. Also, the camera made it obvious we were being watched. It was obvious to us when the "cook"(used loosely) came out after two of us had closed our containers and gave up eating and asked what we thought. He did not like our thoughts. He doesn't take criticism well at all. You should always be open to customers thoughts in the food service industry. Also, it was obvious that he did not taste his food, or does not have taste buds. My husband asked him if he tasted any of the food that he served us and he said yes. There is no way we would have served anything that looked like what we were served much less the way it tasted. The collards were an embarrassment to southern cooks. They were barely blanched. They tasted like a raw leaf off a tree. Then just a boiled piece of onion. No other flavor. No ham hocks, bacon, fat back, nothing! For some reason, he puts his rub in the chicken and pulled pork after it is cooked and in the plate. It is also in the way undercooked pasta salad and the cole slaw. It was a plate of pepper.

We drive over to Scottsville from Charlottesville just to get this BBQ- the pork and chicken are so tender and cooked to perfection! The sides are awesome, not that you need them with the portion size, but the cornbread is succulent enough to save some room...Everyone there makes you feel right home and welcome in The Bend family!

This in response to the 1 star review:That group broke the Golden Rule "Treat others as you like to be treated." Especially during this time, it is not a good rule to breakIt was a group of 6 that came in. They treated the young woman that rang them up so rudely that she retreated into the kitchen, and wouldn't check on them because they made her feel uncomfortable (until she told them goodbye when they left). So the cook came out to ask how everything was (because as a company we don't appreciate when customers treat our staff bad especially when they did nothing wrong.) He gave a direct response to each question that was asked, because you know the golden rule.It seemed like they came in with a preconceived notion that all BBQ is the same. Without asking if we follow any type of style. Even though we have some inspiration from different regions we are completely different from any othersThe cook gave the ratio of 1 batch of dry rub 3, 2, 1, 1, (where the 2 cups of pepper comes in) That batch covers 4 briskets, 6 pork butts and 40 lbs of chicken. With thier assumptions about the cook not tasting anything, he does and so does the young lady that they were rude to.

We had Erik cater our annual cookout this year, with about 75 people in attendance. He put out an amazing spread - the beef ribs were a particular hit, but he also had pulled pork and chicken (both tender and flavorful) that everyone loved, plus potato salad, mac and cheese, coleslaw, collard greens on the side. I particularly like how how Erik makes his collards - with bacon and onions and careful prep work on the greens, an attention to detail that makes a real difference, in my humble opinion. Erik arrived early and had everything set up by the time I got there. He left everything cleaner than he found it, and just generally made everything easier for me and my husband to be able to just enjoy the event. Highly recommend =)

Yes of course the barbecue is amazing, but let me tell you about their banana pudding, Go grab you some !! Don't leave without it! The Bend BBQ is a perfect family-friendly establishment, and it's a perfect addition to the small town of Scottsville. They are some BBQ-loving folks who are extremely dedicated to making some excellent food. I would add a picture but my food is all gone !

Quite possibly the best BBQ in central VA. Prices are VERY reasonable, portions are generous, staff is friendly. Be sure to get the Pork Pim sandwich - BBQ pork with homemade pimento cheese - incredible!

We've only tried it once but we're sure to become regulars. The brisket, pork BBQ, cornbread, mac & cheese, and banana pudding were all on point. Great for feeding a crowd and leftovers were just as good the next day. The owner answered the phone to take our order and helped us when we picked up. Couldn't have been more pleasant. A gem in Scottsville!

We're always looking for takeout options to feed a crowd. This is going to be our new go-to. We tried the brisket, pork bbq, mac & cheese, cornbread, and banana pudding. all on point. The owner couldn't have been friendlier over the phone or in person.

Food:The food is of great quality, fresh, and truly local after having a conversation with the owners. Their menu offers brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. At the visit I also tried the lox which was extremely tender. Overall, food is worth the journey or walk down the strip and they do close once food is all sold so get there early!Setting:We did take a day trip and the restaurant is located in a very small town so being a hole in the wall would not be an exaggeration. The space is intimate, quaint, and warming. The shop is operated by a couple who are very sweet. As of now, there isn’t seating inside.Def will visit again.
