If you look at what restaurants are putting in the food, you will realize a lot of it isn’t actually food. This place came up because we were looking for a burger spot that used fresh ground beef, and also that made their own buns without tons of preservatives, To my knowledge, this is the only place that is in our area that makes their own buns and they also use thick cut real bacon And fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion, with delicious (what appears to be house cut fries. I will continue to come back To try their other dishes and support this amazing Local restaurant. Thank you for putting out great food.
Gracie, Ellie, and Jenna were absolutely phenomenal! We were seated and immediately ask if we wanted anything to drink or appetizers. Just great service and the fried cheese is amazing. Great ladies working here. You gotta come out!
We have been several times but tonight was terrible. We were greeted and seated right by the back door and several servers walked by us like we were invisible. Sat for 20 minutes no menu and no water. A group came in and sat across from us and immediately got water delivered and menus from 2 servers. We arrived 10-15 mins before them. Won’t be visiting anytime soon.

Visiting from out of state, and wanted to have a date night at what looked like a relatively decent dive style restaurant. Service and drinks were great, but my goodness the food was absolutely terrible for what we paid.
I had the tacos, and my wife had the fries chicken.
The tacos were ok due to the sauces that smothered them. The fried chicken was burnt, dry, and completely flavorless. It also wasn’t fried chicken in the traditional sense. We expected bone-in thighs or legs or anything that you’d usually get when ordering “fried chicken.” They were chicken strips. It seems like salt was never added in the cooking process with any of the food. All of the meats involved seemed unseasoned (the chicken, shrimp, fish, and steak in the tacos). Even the mac and cheese didn’t taste like anything.
Our server was wonderful, but the cook(s) could benefit from tasting along the way to make sure their dish tastes like a $20 dish.
Smithfield ice cream down the road fixed us up with some dessert and saved the evening.
Had the daily catch (Wahoo) and grits. It was excellent with the Amarillo IPA! But the spicy Bloody Mary was the best I've ever had! Highly recommend a visit!
Terrific little spot in Smithfield V.A. Good local beer, excellent food. The real prize here is the staff. Every one of them is a ten. Can't say enough about what a great group of young people that work here. Both in the front and the back of the house. I hope the management knows how lucky they are. So worth a drive to check it out. The 2 in the picture are definitely the dynamic duo!!
Paul Hysell MAKES Red Point. I’ve been following him for years. I’ve been eating his for for approximately 10 years. I’m also a long time family friend. I have NEVER had anything of his that wasn’t beyond amazing. I’ve had his food in restaurants and family events. He ability to come up with amazing creations is out of this world. He should have Triple D show up and be on the food shows. Tonight we got the Red Point Burger, steak fries, wings and the weekend special lobster Mac & cheese. Proportions sizes are perfect. Everything was OUTSTANDING. I had a bite of everything. After each bite I paused once the food was in my mouth and thought “good Lord he went and did it again!” I’ve had brunch on the outdoor patio; however, tonight it was to go. It was just as amazing as if you were dining in. Check them out. You won’t be sorry. I am NOT a paid spokesperson!
Food and service is 10/10. You MUST stop here if you’re in Smithfield. Veteran owned too. I absolutely love bringing my family here. Try the TABLE sandwich!
Had a great experience here! We ordered the crab dip, blue cheese burger, and I got the burger of the day (grilled onion and cheese on brioche toast).
The crab dip was good and the green onion on top added some nice freshness to the dish. The two burgers were very filling! Seriously ya’ll, my husband and I could’ve shared one burger between two of us. They ask you how you would like your burger cooked (medium, well done, etc). The sea salt on the fresh made fries were a nice touch! The house made steak sauce was probably my favorite sauce they had (besides from ketchup and sriracha Tabasco hot sauce). The steak sauce has a good amount of savoriness and tanginess to make you want more.
Unfortunately, they didn’t have many of the beer available for purchase. We ended up getting the pumpkin beer, which had a pumpkin-spice hint and a crisp finish. My husband usually doesn’t like pumpkin-beer, but he loved it and said it was his favorite pumpkin beer he ever had.
Service was phenomenal! Our waitress Aubrey is sweet and made sure we were good!
The cons were the amount of flies we had while trying to eat our food. The restaurant is also very small and cramped. Large gathering would be tough to manage, unless you eat outside.

Amazing good and atmosphere
What an amazing late Sunday dinner at Redpoint! Hubby got fried chicken and it was amazing! I had steak fries and a great salad. For a late walk in dinner the staff was great and very accommodating!
Expect to spend a lot of money. It is worth it. Spent $100 with tip and had a damn good time with wife and child.
Worst place that I’ve been to in Smithfield. I dont live in this area but i visit frequently to see my friends. Red Point is backed up to a dog kennel, so if you sit outside it smells horribly like dog SH*T and the flies are out of control. The inside of the restaurant is extremely small, like you’re eating in a hallway. They only have one restroom for men and women and it’s filthy. The beer tastes like mold and i cant comment on the food.. i didn’t last that long in this place. We went to Wharf Hills Brewing, and all was amazing drinks, environment, food, service and the customers! I will put a 5 star for them to prevent people from wasting their time at red point. How is Red Point surviving, is beyond me! Save your time & money find another reputable place. Cheers! :)
On 7/21/24 mid afternoon we went to have some drinks out on the back patio. It didn’t last long as the flies were relentless so we carried on inside. 2 of us ordered beers on tap and both have had that beer before so they knew the taste of the beer. One friend asked if I would take a sip as she stated it taste like straight up salt water- so I took a sip and had to spit it out. Then my other friend said I thought the beer tasted salty but didn’t want to complain so I asked to sip hers as well and it also was salty too. We asked our waitress to take off the beers and asked if could get something else and she stated no as they had a choice to taste first- there was no point in tasting first as my friends already knew what the beers tasted like before as they have had them before. We all ended up with sour belly’s and the shiats that evening.
