Wharf Hill has always been consistent in serving up really good food, and that's what kept us coming back. Unfortunately, the service has noticeably declined over our past few visits.
During our most recent trip, we were told by the hostess there would be a 10-minute wait — despite observing multiple empty tables. We ended up waiting 40–45 minutes to be seated. Once seated, our food took another 40 minutes to arrive. When we asked about the delay, we were told they were “exceptionally busy,” which didn’t quite add up given the number of empty tables in view.
It felt more like a serious staffing issue, and as much as we’ve enjoyed the food in the past, the overall experience has become too frustrating to justify. Not likely to return.

Got a flight but wasn't a fan of the beer. Food was awesome! Had the shrimp poboy and fried green tomatoes. No wait on a Saturday afternoon. Would come back!

Wow, glad I did not miss this place. The outside of the building was hideing the amazing staff and food! The beer was good but the food was outstanding. Chicken pot pie was epic, wife had the pulled pork and coleslaw wantons and both amazing. The salted ham on homemade yeast rolls..... Mmmm. The onion rings are a meal on their own. Come hungry and leave with doggy bags. We will. Be back.

So thie issue is we ordered several appetizers. And then ordered a medium burger. The issues is we got different food just to try and see what we like and dislike. Now at the end they bring us the burger togo just to tell us they dont want our business. We never complained or wanted free food. We just wanted to try multiple dishes now the burger came out over done and no flavor at all.

This is mine and my wifes first time there, and my wife loved it because the menu has a lot of gluten-free options on it. Our server Emma was very nice and she was very helpful and knew what was in all the food. We

On our way to OBX, we broke up our drive and chose to stay near Smithfield. We found Wharf Hill searching, with an interesting menu we decided to head in to Main Street. First the city of Smithfield is beautiful and picturesque with lovely Victorian homes. We ordered the loaded fries, which were delicious. My family all got different meals. Chicken pot pie with the onion rings, several got burgers and shredded pork plate. We all left full! The atmosphere was so cool and historic.

Fantastic atmosphere, friendly and prompt service... And great food. Fisherman's stew was the highlight, with fried green tomatoes in a close second. Nice find for lunch in a cute town.

Less than impressed with thus experience.

The queen and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and were immediately seated. Order was taken in a timely manner - me the blackened shrimp po boy and the queen got the rueben. Then the wait began.

The birthday waitress stopped by a couple times and said our food was coming out, but it didn't. Other tables seated after us received their orders, but we waited. 25 minutes after we ordered basic sandwiches our meal arrived - cold. The birthday waitress apologized and said she was getting the manager, but the manager never arrived and we left very disappointed.

For a cold sandwich and onion rings it was okay.
