Revisited Jimm and his place and it is so refreshing that Sharp Rock is just as friendly, cozy, and generous (very good prices for the wine) as it was when I first visited, way back in 2001. Some Virginia wine fans who prefer a slicker, more corporate type of winery like Blue Valley or Barboursville may not appreciate the location. But this is the way Virginia wineries should be - off the beaten trail, a beautiful setting, counter tastings, and good prices. I can't imagine a better way to spend a warm afternoon. And they're located near Old Rag Mountain. But do your hike before visiting Sharp Rock. You won't want to leave.

Visited and stayed in the cottage (book through them to get wine and food perks, like an amazing breakfast). Everything was wonderful. During the tasting, the owner shared a great deal of wine making knowledge with us; we learned so many interesting things and found a few new favorite wines. The atmosphere is peaceful and has great views. Be sure to notice the historic main house, like the wine and vineyard, it’s further proof of a labor of love. We enjoyed the dog greeters but if you shy away from dogs, I can confirm they are friendly. Highly recommend a visit and a stay in the cottage (comfy bed and space).

We had such a wonderful weekend at Sharp Rock Winery. The Cottage was charming, plenty spacious, and incredibly clean. Jim was an excellent host (and makes a delicious breakfast!). With mountain views and a rushing river, the location is perfection if you are looking to experience Virginia at its most beautiful.

Jimm is a very welcoming host and the vineyard itself is peaceful and scenic. The carriage house is a great place to stay and the wine was incredible as well. We will certainly be back for another stay in the future!

My boyfriend and I stopped by Sharp Rock Winery for a tasting after hiking Old Rag. It was one of the first stops you’ll find after leaving Old Rag. We were greeted by Jim, one of the owners, and his dog, Maisey. Jim was great to talk to about wines and other sites to see in the area. He was helpful and drew us a great map :) We left with a bottle of their red. I hope to go back!

Great place. We stayed a few nights for our 1 year wedding anniversary/my 40th birthday. Jimm is super friendly and easygoing with two very sweet dogs whose company we very much enjoyed.Sharp Rock is in a beautiful location, somewhat off the beaten path by a small river, with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the surroundings. The cottage we stayed in was very rustic - no TV, no wifi or cell service - but our accommodations were quiet, convenient to local attractions, clean and comfortable. If I had to nit pick…The deck and furniture were covered in leaves, some of the solar lights along the path to the house were knocked over or not working, and there was a dead plant in a hanging basket where perhaps a mum or some other fall plant would have brightened it up.Breakfast each day was egg soufflés, fresh fruit, and different types of muffins - delicious! Wine tasting was on the second floor of the barn - small but charming. We enjoyed the wine we tried - the chamois blanc and rose noir were favorites. We went home with a few bottles! Will definitely come back and recommend giving it a try!Nearby activities: Luray Caverns, Shenandoah National Park, Wine Trail

Perfect weekend getaway! We enjoyed the amenities provided in the cabin, and the wine. It was the perfect setting to sip wine by the river. Breakfast was delicious and filling. Jimm was very nice and accommodating. Great stay!

Very cute vineyard / winery. You will be way out of range of cell service, but that's how you know it's good. The owner is a master of his craft, and appreciates the art of wine without being a snob about it. Low key fun, and I promise you will learn something about wine by visiting. Their 2022 Rose' Noir is amazing. Nice indoor and outdoor seating, and two very friendly dogs. Very limited production artisanal vibe. Also they have some very good locally sourced Amish cheeses that are made in old German style, incredible, and worth a stop if you just get cheese.

Walt Whitman would go there if he were still alive! Breathtaking scenery, peace and quiet, the most delightful little carriage house and a breakfast to die for.

Cool little winery off the beaten path. Definitely worth a stop if you're traveling along rt. 231

Setting is peaceful and gorgeous. We've stayed 3 times in the small carriage house with a porch that allows for al fresco dining with a view of the trees, river, hummingbirds and stars at night. The cottage is small but efficient with everything you need. Bring food to enjoy dinner in this setting while fresh fruit and freshly baked muffins or scones in the morning could not be better. Along with a magical sunrise. Go during the week if you want optimal peace and quiet on the road to Old Rag. Other hiking options abound in the area. Good restaurants are also nearby (10 - 20 miles).

Incredible 12 hours at Sharp Rock, stayed in the cottage. Jimm did a complimentary tasting for us, delicious breakfast in the morning, and he even hand-drew a map of how to get to a nearby watering hole in Shenandoah NP! Highly recommend the wine and B&B :)

Had a great afternoon chatting with Jimm & Kathy while dropping by after hiking Old Rag.We had a tasting and enjoyed all of both the whites & reds, then had a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc down by the river.
