Recently spent a week in Texas and visited top rated bbq spots and the Pit Stop competes w the best in the country! Hands down the best bbq in the DMV (we’ve tried 10 different places). We stopped by on a late Friday afternoon and they were clearly very busy but we were eating dinner within 10 mins and everything was at perfect temperature.

The brisket was tender and seasoned perfectly w an ideal smoke ring. The chicken was juicy and seasoned just right. I got the potato salad and mac & cheese and despite the amazing portions, the Mac was so good I finished it all while there! The portions are huge and we brought the equivalent of 2 meals home! Cornbread was moist and perfectly cooked. The banana pudding was 👌just the way I like it - reminded me of the best southern cooking I enjoyed while living in Atlanta for 15 years.

As if the food wasn’t enough reason to rave, the staff was super friendly and made a point to use our names during the ordering process and accommodated every customer efficiently and with a smile.

This is our new favorite BBQ and well worth the trip out to Sterling or their other location in Upper Marlboro, MD!

The pit stop is a stop that everyone should make! I have been on a BBQ tour of NOVA and this is the best! The ribs are perfectly tender and the rub is magical. The wings were fried perfectly and seasoned well. Brisket was tender smoked chicken was perfectly smoky and juicy. The sides I got were mac&cheese, sweet potatoes, potato salad, and baked beans. They are were cook well and had great flavor. Banana pudding and the cake of the day was strawberry they were sensational!

Don't sleep on this place!

I first discovered The Pit Stop Barbecue back in 2021 after moving to Ashburn, and ever since then I’ve made it a point to stop by at least once a month. It’s one of those places that quickly becomes a favorite once you try it. The brisket is always really good, but what makes this spot special for me are the rib tips. You don’t see those on the menu at most barbecue joints in the area, and they’re done perfectly here.

The restaurant itself is pretty small and straightforward. From the outside, it looks like it might’ve been an old mechanic shop, and inside there’s not a lot of character or frills. But honestly, the food more than makes up for it — and that’s what keeps me coming back.

In my opinion, this is hands down the best barbecue you can find in Northern Virginia. Whether you’re a brisket fan, rib-tip lover, or just want some seriously good barbecue, I’d recommend this place to anyone.

My parents were visiting and since they love BBQ, we decided to try out The Pit Shop BBQ in Sterling. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Black-owned BBQ spot here—and even more surprised at how good it was!
The wings were fried to perfection (I’m a “fried hard” girl and they nailed it). Their sauces are amazing, and the mac n’ cheese was one of the best I’ve had from a restaurant. The “old-fashioned kale” was such a cool twist—like collard greens but with kale, and it really worked! The catfish was tasty, though my mom wasn’t a fan of the rib tips.
Overall, our family rated high and I’d definitely bring others here. The vibe is spot on—especially with Kool-Aid and sweet tea served in a jug. That alone tells you you’re in the right place for real BBQ. The customer service was top tier, they were friendly and even let us try samples to help us decide on what to get. I would recommend trying this place out.

I work across the street and finally tried it out thinking it was your average bbq place in NOVA….ITS NOT!! It’s sooo much better than the others. Reminds me of my fav spot in NC! Great food and service and great portions for the price! 10/10

All I can say is, I’m hooked.
This is definitely one of my favorite spots. The flavor is out of this world.. if you like chicken cheddar, smoked chicken salad or just their chicken.
If you love brisket, trust me, this brisket is hands-down, my favorite.
If you thinking stopping by, don’t hesitate, you will not regret it. This place is worth every penny that you spend.

Amazing! Brisket wasn't chewy at all, fell apart very easily. The sweet potatoes are DELICIOUS, you CANNOT leave without trying them! Mac n Cheese is also very good and cheesy so no complaints, maybe to make it better, add more seasoning? And the cornbread, SUPER good. Not too hard or too crumbly or anything like that, just a classic delicious cornbread. Overall, would come again.

Let me tell you something. This place is the best BBQ in town, by far... Cornbread/ rip tips/ pork/ potato salad. All great .They even have Koolaid. This place is right. 😁 If I knew what competition bbq is, this would have to be it. Food top notch and service better than Chick-fil-A.

Best BBQ chicken I've had, period. The seasoning, sauces, and smokiness are perfection (I pick up on black pepper, maybe mustard in there, which is my favorite). I could eat the BBQ every single day, and the portions thankfully get me about 2-3 meals! Also love the sides, especially the kale. The banana pudding is a fantastic treat, and the cake is always delicious.
Absolutely love Glynis-- she's been incredibly kind and welcoming since we met her on day one (it was our first meal upon moving to VA and we're hooked). Always happy to see her and beyond grateful for her incredible food!
