YamaChen's Sushi

Maybe it was off day or it was because it was the middle of the afternoon, but after reading such rave reviews I was really disappointed with the sashimi. Maybe that just isn’t what your order here? It’s not that the fish had gone bad, it was more like it tasted like it was frozen, defrosted, frozen and then defrosted again but not completely or not correctly - there was no texture and no flavor, it was a slices of fish that were just completely blah 😕

It would be one thing if it was just one of the fish, but it was every single one in the sashimi platter. The spicy tuna roll that came with it was average.

I did really like service, our waiter was friendly and attentive and super quick in getting us water - A+ there! And in a day and age when nothing is free I really enjoyed the free edamame and the complimentary digestive drink after the meal. That’s a nice touch ❤️

The restaurant itself could be pretty cool, but there were some serious cobwebs in the corners - I mean, like 3 feet long dangling in front of the windows - DUDE! I get they are up high but you need to clean those!

Would I recommend? I really want to love every sushi place I go to, but I like sashimi so if you can’t get that right, it’s a “no” for me.

I took my oldest and best friend from over 30 years ago to this sushi restaurant last night. It was AMAZING! Great food, great service and we ordered the boat combo and it did not disappoint in any way!! They even threw in some “freebies” along the way. I’m highly recommending this place to everyone! Sushi Yamachen is the place to go for the best sushi in the DMV.

I've gone here a few times, and this is by far one of my favorite sushi places in NOVA. That being said, it is a bit of a drive out to Sterling from my house, so I don't always go given I have a few other places nearby.

The place if fairly quiet which I think could be linked to its less-than-ideal location away from other business hubs. I found out about it from a coupon voucher that was sent out via mail and probably would have missed this even though, it's by TeaDM, an upscale bubble tea shop.

The staff is very friendly, and the decor is beautiful. Inspired by Japanese art and nature, it is very calming. Likewise, they have an app to gather reward points which can be exchanged for reduced priced menu items.

In terms of the price, given the quality of the fish, it is very reasonable. However, if you have a shellfish allergy or peanut allergy, I suggest being careful. Unlike most places they use real crab meat instead of the imitation crab likewise their house salad uses a peanut butter dressing. Though differentiator, it also makes their menu a bit less accessible to some especially the overabundance of rolls using crab meat. They also have a fair amount of sake options to share with friends including a great peach one.

This is one of those places you want to like but you can't. Sushi rolls lacked flavor, smelled fishy and not fresh. However, service here is excellent which may make it up to a certain point especially for individuals that don't know sushi.

This was a very pleasant surprise. I'm very glad this is in my home town because it's amount the top sushi I've had in NoVA in quite some time. The sushi was very fresh, as were the steamed gyoza. The included photo is evidence of that. Service was friendly and attentive. The decor is warm and inviting and the place is spotless (and doesn't smell of cleaning materials, as can happen sometimes). I wanted to order more, but was full. I'll certainly be back.

Absolutely the best dinner experience I've ever had! The environment was absolutely amazing. We had a party and the area they sat us in was so perfect. Everything from appetizers, to the entree, and desert was so delicious and beautiful. Service was amazing. They even had a live piano player which was excellent. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a special night out. Thank you YamaChen for a great night.

If this was out of 10, I’d give it a 3. Decent service since they were polite and gave a free cheesecake, even though it tasted so bad we couldn’t take more than one bite.

The food wasn’t very good but also wasn’t so bad it’s inedible. We got 3 rolls, a chicken yakisoba, and miso soups. None of the rolls tasted fresh nor were they very flavorful. The yakisoba was dry and also lacking any flavor.

Will not be back.
