Late in posting ! I had my 40 th High School Reunion at The Rail Stop and it was a 10 out of 10! Every single course that each of us had was fabulous and the service was fantastic! We were a high maintenance table and Diane took such good care of us! I highly recommend The Rail Stop!
We had mussels, crab cake and salmon
Mussels seem like undercooked. But other than that food was good

Love the atmosphere, my only issue was with the mussels. They seemed raw, very hard to pull apart we just stopped eating them. The tomato sauce was not as good as the vermouth for the mussels. The crab cakes was very nice. The dessert was very nice. Staff was great.

My husband and I have been looking forward to dining at The Rail Stop ever since this amazing couple, TracyLynn & Chef Sandy, bought it. Our reservation was EARLY- 5pm- and we were delighted to see there were plenty of tables available. We sat down to one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time, and within an hour, every table was taken. It was FULL! I had no expectation of seeing TracyLynn there, so it was especially special that she greeted us and seated us and Sandy feeded usđ€Ł! I have so many dietary restrictions that I wrote in on my reservation I know they were scared to death of me coming! No dairy, no red meat - it was FLAWLESS. For appetizers, I had the Warm Calamari Salad and it was delicious. Tom had Duck Rolls and I stole a bite and they were the best both of us have ever tasted. For our main course, I had the Salmon and Tom had the Crab Cakes (simply mouth-watering) and both incredibly delicious. Tom topped his off with an espresso and his favorite, creme brulee and even I had to risk a few hives and take a teeny tiny bite (no hives). He could not stop eating it even though it was a very large portion. Compliments to the Chef, the extremely attentive wait staff (even in the midst of a full house), and the best date night we've had in years. Highly highly recommend! #CleanPlateClub!đ„°
A Cozy Dinner Date at The Rail Stop
This evening, my husband and I enjoyed a delightful dinner at The Rail Stop Restaurant in The Plains, VA. Despite arriving a tad late after a couple of train delays, the staff welcomed us with the warmest smiles, making us feel completely at ease. They were so understanding and never made us feel rushed, which was wonderful.
The place itself is super cozy, reminiscent of dining at a friend's home where everything is relaxed and inviting. The food was fantastic as well! We tried their signature dish on our server's recommendation, and it was absolutely perfect, delicious, and beautifully presented.
What really made our evening special was the atmosphere. The friendly chatter around us, made it feel like we were part of a big family gathering.
Thanks to everyone at The Rail Stop for making our dinner so enjoyable. It turned what could have been just another evening into one of the highlights of our week. We canât wait to come back!

Quick stop for a small bite and a drink on the outdoor patio as I opted for a scenic drive up and through The Plains. This was perfect and hit the spot. Excellent, warm and accommodating service. The bread and butter, Greek salad and Sauv were fresh and just right on a nice weekend evening with the sun setting overhead. Comfortable and quality spot with a cozy outdoor seating area. Highly recommend. Looked like they had tons more on the menu that will be great to try another time.

Probably the best restaurant experience I've had in months. The food was AMAZING. The service was great too. Not too hurried nor too slow. Attentive and aware of the customer's needs. The decor fits the theme of the restaurant perfectly. Honestly, the food was superior.

Upon arrival we immediately made eye contact with the hostess who was in the kitchen. We were not acknowledged and left to stand there. Ok! Busy! A waiter (older gentleman) while serving other tables came up and told us he would let the hostess know we were there! Ok, she saw standing there! When he mentioned it to her, she kind of rolled her eyes at him and acknowledged.
She finally came to greet us and escort us to our table. We wanted to sit outside and queried about an umbrella and we were told , we could open it ourselves! We donât mind, it was just the delivery!
Same waiter came back to take our order! He was super kind and professional. He made lunch a much better experience for us!
Food and wine suggestions were excellent!
I understand it was somewhat busy but, a hostess is the face of the business and can really impact the guest experience!

All around terrible. I went today with some friends and was initially greeted by the host who asked if we had a reservation. I said no but the restaurant was not crowded and she said thatâs ok and took us to the patio. After about 15 minutes and two servers passing us by the host came back out and asked if we had been helped. We said no that no one has even approached. There was an older gentleman who was helping a table of 2 and a 6 person table who glanced our way several times but ignored us. The table of 6 came in about 25 minutes after us and was greeted immediately by the older gentleman who began to take their order. After seeing another employee we inquired about how long it would take and if the host had put in our order since she took it because no server was in charge of our table. He apologized and said he would help us. Mind you there was a child who was waiting for now well over an hour for food and he told us it would take another 25 minutes. At that point we decided to leave disappointed after hearing such great things about the restaurant. Iâm hoping that it was nothing more than it was âbusyâ and not that the older gentleman did not want to serve us. How unfortunate!

Stop here for a delicious meal in a quaint, localized setting. Everyone in our party made different menu choices and none were disappointed. All commented that it may have been the best meal they had ever eaten!
And the bread! The bread started us off with very high expectations and everything that followed exceeded that standard; salads, mussel appetizer, shrimp and grits appetizer, Pork chop, beef Wellington, fettuccini with lobster, sea scallops, etc. the portions were eye-widening ("wow") but still left us wanting more!
Is there any way to get the bread and shrimp and grits recipe???

Wow, what a hidden gem. The Mother's Day dinner menu ranged from beef wellington to homemade fettuccine and lobster. We dined on shrimp and grits as an appetizer, cod topped with crabmeat and fettuccine and lobster . The portions are large and left no room for dessert .
Parking: Parking is available on the street. There's a parking lot that is not marked but behind the Rail Stop.
Recommended dishes: Shrimp and Grits
