- walked in to order family platter, but they told us they do not serve family platter even though it's advertised all over their store
- indoor seating is limited so we sat outside hoping they would turn on the gas furnaces, but they did not. The weather suddenly got very chilly and our food turned cold before we could finish
- priced probably bigger than the quality of food
Overall decent place

Stopped going there after my last encounter. Some of the staff members are very unpleasant and discriminate against customers. Was told that tables are reserved when in fact they don’t take reservations. Clearly give some customers preferential treatment and others not despite going there on a regular basis. Well, won’t be going back.

I was disappointed that they did not have the vegetarian options like they do at the other sister restaurant.

So the business has some very shady practices, prompting this one star review.
They charge a 6% "service and packaging fee" for all orders. Regardless of dine in or takeout. There's no way to opt out of it. And when I asked why they charge this, they said it is a form of tax associated with preparing the food.
Tax is a percentage that goes to the government... Not to the pocket of the owner.
The menu prices need to represent what they actually are (before government tax and tip); not what they are before some made-up fee that they charge on everything. They even charge it on a bottle of water... Not sure what they're packaging there.
This is definitely an illegal practice and needs to be looked into by local law enforcement.
I'm happy to update my rating and review when they remove this illegal "tax"

I recently visited Maman Joon in Tysons Corner with my family, a group of nine adults and three children, expecting a pleasant evening of Middle Eastern cuisine. Being Muslims, we observed our prayer time on the spacious, scarcely populated terrace of the restaurant. To our shock and dismay, a manager interrupted my brother's prayer, informing us that we could not pray in that area. This intrusion on our religious practice left us feeling deeply unwelcome.
What followed was even more distressing: the volume of the music was abruptly increased, making it challenging to concentrate on our prayers. This tactic felt like a blatant attempt to silence our religious expression, a stark contrast to the values of religious freedom that our country stands for.
Although a staff member later apologized, the overall experience left an indelible mark on us. We will not be returning to Maman Joon, and we urge the management to reflect on their actions and consider the importance of accommodating all guests, regardless of their religious beliefs.

My brother and I were simply trying to pray in the corner next to our table, separated from everyone else, until we were approached and told that the manager doesn’t allow anyone to pray in his restaurant. This is extremely disappointing considering this is an Arab restaurant when other restaurants that have a very small percentage of Muslims allow my family to pray with no problem.

The food, is the real star. Every dish was bursting with rich flavors and fresh ingredients. The kebabs were perfectly grilled, tender, and juicy, while the saffron rice was fragrant and delicious

The wife and I dined at Maman Joon Kitchen on 8/25/24 and were very impressed. My wife had Combo 2 (Koobideh = Ground Beef and Chenjeh = Prime Beef/Steak), while I went with Combo 1 (Koobideh and Chicken). Both dishes came with jasmine rice, a few peppers, and pita bread with a cucumber yogurt dip with herbs.
The chicken was juicy, well-seasoned, and had a little spice but nothing overly crazy. The ground beef and steak was rich and savory, and all the meats were tender and soft. The location is inside Tysons Corner Mall and is convenient, with its entrance and patio that face the street, offering a nice outdoor seating option.
We wanted to try the Falafel, but unfortunately, it was sold out. Despite this, everything we tried was amazing, and we’ll definitely be back. Next time, we plan to try the Salmon, Lamb, and Persian Ice Cream.
The only downside is the limited seating inside, so if you visit on the weekend, you may need to sit on the patio. Overall, highly recommended for both locals and visitors!
Parking: There is a covered parking deck right across the street.

***THINK TWICE BEFORE SPENDING HERE***
We went to pick up lunch from Maman Joon Kitchen (Tyson’s Corner Mall) before heading out for a trip. We ordered the food. There were three tables occupied - mostly empty. While waiting for the food to be ready, my wife started praying the Zuhr prayer in a corner table sitting while I was standing. An elderly man who works there (possibly the manager) approached me and took me outside and said NO ONE IS ALLOWED to pray inside his restaurant. He also said “I am Muslim but I can’t allow anyone to pray here”
He claimed since last year many of his customers complained and he strictly prohibits anyone praying inside his restaurant. He claimed no one is allowed to pray at any restaurant inside the mall. This statement is false.
We have been to other restaurants inside the mall and never experienced this issue. We have travelled to over 35 states. We still prayed where there’s barely any Muslims in the area and never had a problem.
I am deeply saddened by hearing this from a Muslim restaurant that serves halal food. If I was in his place, I would explained it to other non-Muslim customers the value of praying in Islam that they may be unaware of. When Allah calls for prayer, we must pray where ever we are. Where non muslim business owners respect our right of praying, how can a Muslim owner reject it?
We asked for a refund and left the restaurant. We would never return there unless this policy is changed.
