Went with a group of 5 on 1/19, everyone who ate the food aside from the vegetarian in our group got food poisoning.

I hosted my office's holiday party here. It was a great venue for our group of 17 and everyone had a great time! I looked at several other spots, but we chose Shipgarten because it was the only one that did not charge an hourly rental rate. All we had to pay for was our food. Their group catering menu has many options and the prices were very reasonable. The events staff was very easy to work with, and the space was perfect for what we needed. Even in the middle of winter, their Bier Hall stays nice and warm. I highly recommend Shipgarten if you are looking to book a private event, either large or small!

Music is loud. Bring your yelling voice. Food is so/so bar food. They go beer! ^_^ that’s about it. If the weather is nice it’s quite enjoyable.

My wife reserved a VIP reservation for my birthday at this establishment. Unfortunately they dropped the ball by not getting my name correct for my table, telling me that the one beer I wanted in my towers was not available (Shock Top), that they could not setup any games in my immediate area and that I would have to go outside if I wanted them setup. Furthermore, the manager confused me for some drunk guys and tried to man handle me. All this as I waited patiently with my wife to go home as we picked up our gifts from a cooler outside (the gifts were wine bottles) which security was already grabbing for us. We wrote an email complaining and they have yet to resolve our complaints. After so many back to back issues I never plan to go back! Apparently management feels it’s the law too, so be careful!

Shipgarden is located on Coleshire Drive, right opposite the McLean Metro Station near Capital One. It’s slightly uphill but easy to reach. The place itself is quite nice — warm indoor halls, and a larger common area where people can sit, have drinks, and relax. During the Christmas season, the ambience feels festive and lively.

We tried the fries, loaded fries with cheese, garlic fries, and a cider beer — everything tasted good, and we were happy with the food and drinks.

Unfortunately, the biggest issue was staff behavior at the entrance.
The person checking IDs — a man wearing a cap and having a beard — was extremely rude and aggressive. I politely informed him that my wife did not have an ID and that she does not drink alcohol. While I completely understand alcohol policies, the way he spoke was unacceptable. He aggressively said words to the effect of “we’ll kick you out if your wife drinks,” which felt threatening and completely unnecessary.

Rules can and should be enforced, but there is a respectful way to communicate them. The tone and manner used here were harsh, intimidating, and disrespectful.

Additionally, the shuttle driver (black guy with beard) was also rude when I asked whether showing an ID photo on the phone would work, immediately dismissing it by saying it could be photoshopped instead of explaining politely.
So I would recommend the management to dismiss such staff who are disrespectful towards customers!
Attached is the photo of the beard guy for management’s review!
And at last, the shuttle driver denied the ride to us, we were waiting for him near the Shipgarten shuttle (shuttle which takes to their parking lot), so we had to walk about a mile in super chill weather back to our car - completely frustrated!
Also I don’t understand the concept of adding 20% gratuity even if you are just one guest.

I hosted a friend’s birthday party at ShipGarten and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From start to finish, the staff was absolutely amazing. They made the entire planning process easy and stress-free, with clear, quick, and efficient communication every step of the way. They were incredibly accommodating. The food was great, my favorites were the funnel cake fries and the guacamole. The Cider was delicious!!! The venue itself is fantastic for hosting events, and I highly recommend ShipGarten for birthdays, gatherings, or any special occasion. One of the things I love most is that they also host dog-friendly events, which makes the place even more special! I had an amazing time and will absolutely be using ShipGarten for future events!!!

We hosted our engagement party at Shipgarten and it was excellent! Jack was fantastic to work with, genuinely cared about the success of our event, and going out of his way to make sure that it went smoothly and was enjoyable. We would definitely return to Shipgarten to host an event or for a casual drink!

Fun event for kids how only entry and play are free all other activities are for an additional price. That should be advertised as well. My issues was with the bar prices are marketed incorrectly on menus. ship garden needs to stop false advertising

One of the worst bar experiences I have had in a long time.

We paid a $45 cover between the three of us specifically for the hot festive drinks they advertised everywhere—glühwein, spiked cider, etc. Once inside, none of those drinks existed. Staff kept sending us back and forth between tents, and it became clear no one knew what was going on and the advertised items simply weren’t available.

Even basic German beers like Bitburger weren’t recognized by the bartenders, which is baffling for a place calling itself a German bierhall. We decided to leave, and while waiting for our ride, a bouncer told us we couldn’t sit on an empty couch because it required a $400 reservation (all the couches were empty; almost no one was there).

False advertising, untrained staff, and a completely disorganized operation. We walked in excited and walked out feeling scammed.

I was recommended this venue due to its family friendly atmosphere and ended up hosting an out of town meet & greet party this past October with friends. Jack and his team were such a great help with accommodating my needs and hosting a great party. We had a wonderful time and were able to introduce this venue to locals who will be visiting with their families in the future! We will definitely be coming back --thanks again!

Nov 16, 2025, from 1-3pm, was promoted as K-Pop Demon Hunter dance party for kids with magician and balloon animals. Very very little K-Pop DH music, no magician, no animal balloons, and the outside toys (including one of the two inflatable bounce houses) are broken. One bounce house doesn't work for younger kids: my 5-year-old left crying after bigger kids piled on the smaller ones. You need two to separate big from small. How can a place so new be so run down? Terrible promo event. Not coming back.

The place has great potential but misses out on a lot. Nowhere for someone by theirselves to hangout at. No bar stools at all. The Tysons Biergarten had barstools to sit at near the bar.

Shipgarten has tables everywhere. Noone wants to sit at a table without someone they know.
