Outstanding in every way. This quiet little gem is tucked away in Tyson's corner and was a very pleasant surprise. We went for lunch on a whim and we are so glad that we did. Highly recommend.
Nostos — A Contemporary Greek Table With Confident Comforts From the first bite to the final sweet finish, the meal at Nostos felt like a gentle journey through modern-style Greek comfort food — with enough variety to satisfy a broad appetite, and enough character to make me want to come back for more. Haloumi Skaras — the grilled cheese arrived simply plated, yet the haloumi's salty-milky richness and gentle char lent it real presence. Each bite offered a pleasant chew and a savory depth that served as a confident opening note, satisfying in its humble elegance. Dolmadakia Yialantzi — grape leaves wrapped around seasoned rice and herbs, paired with that cooling yogurt sauce. The tang of the yogurt set off the subtle herbaceousness of the dolmades beautifully; the roll felt light yet comforting, with the yogurt adding a welcomed creamy contrast. Kolokithakia — crisp-thin zucchini slices, likewise dressed with yogurt sauce, delivered a delicate crunch and fresh vegetal brightness. The zucchini's crispness was a nice foil for the creamy yogurt, and the interplay left a clean, lightly herbal aftertaste I found very agreeable. Arni Youvetsi — a dramatic presentation: lamb shank atop orzo, bathed in tomato-wine sauce. Visually, it made an impression — rustic yet refined. Flavor-wise, it was on the gentler side: the lamb's natural heft was there, but the seasoning seemed restrained. Still, the dish carried a comforting warmth and a homey gravitas, making it a wholesome, if slightly understated, main course. The preparation reflects the traditional concept of Youvetsi — meat and orzo simmered and baked in tomato sauce. Mousaka — layers of eggplant, seasoned meat, and béchamel stacked together into a classic. It delivered nicely: the eggplant softened without becoming mushy, the meat filling brought savory weight, and the béchamel added creamy cohesion. The textures layered well, and the overall effect was warm, satisfying, and familiar — a dependable rendition of a
Our server Jerry was great! The branzino, sesame encrusted feta and beet salad were all excellent. The octopus was good but not the best we've had. Ambience was classy and nice. We will be back!
This was my Birthday Dinner while shopping at Tyson's - celebrating a special time for me...saganaki cheese at the table side, horiatiki/greek salad, mousaka entree with a surprise candle-topped luscious orange cake!!! Server gave us impeccable service; all staff had great attention to every detail! Dined here multiple times - definitely worth the travel & experience! Morgantown, WV
Nostos is always a favorite & never disappoints. The swordfish skewers & halibut were moist & perfectly prepared. The beet salad with goat cheese was refreshing & the Greek wine a perfect accompaniment.
Nineteen years on, Nostos is still among the very best dining experiences in Fairfax, Va. It's the essence of Greek fare -- the mezedes, especially, are outstanding, most notably the cloud-puff taramasalata -- and the markup on the broad selection of Greek wines is not excessive. An ample anniversary dinner for two, including succulent kleftiko and a hearty xinomavro, tipped in at under $200.
I have been to Nostos multiple times over the years and was very disappointed in my recent visit. The main issues were: (1) poor service - waiter was aloof an inattentive...water glasses left unfilled, requested items didn't show, attitude poor; (2) food - lamb chops, ordered medium-rare came well done, and portion size was small; and (3) value - at the prices charged the service and food should have been much better. The size of the fish portion was miniscule, and I have already mentioned the poor service. I don't mind spending if the food and service is great, but here the prices were high but the food and service didn't support it.
We shared several dishes, including Three Dips w/Pita bread; crispy Zucchini slices w/Tzatziki ; Meat platter w/lamb, meatballs, chicken skewers, potatoes and asparagus; Orange Cake w/ice cream; Custard filled Phyllo; and Assyrtiko wine. Everything was excellent to very good. Plenty of choices on the menu, including small plates to share. Nice menu of Greek wines. Our waiter Diego was awesome... personable, great service and good recommendations. The noise level was moderate in the main dining room, but did not interfere with our conversations. Highly recommend this restaurant for great food and top notch service.
Nostos is a great restaurant serving excellent food. It is our "Go To' restaurant for special occasions. The staff is very attentive and are very welcoming. Highly recommend Nostos to anyone wanting great food with a very nice environment.
The food is typical Greek fare. That is, excellent food items prepared simply. The calamari are sooo tender. My favorite here is the lamb shank but you can't go wrong with any fish dish. Lovely wines and great service. I could do without as much noise however.

Excellent neighborhood restaurant that is consistently delicious. We ordered zucchini fritters, the greek salads, the fish roe dip, lamb shank, and the sauteed shrimp. All of it was excellent. The three of us had no space desert.

The food was great, a bit expensive. The service was also great. I was a little disappointed that even though I had indicated in the reservation that it was a birthday dinner, it was not acknowledged by the restaurant at all. Other places offer a dessert, a candle, or something. We did not even get a happy birthday wish.
Our dinner at Nostos last night was dependably excellent. We had visited Nostos a little over two weeks ago and had enjoyed the sea bream special, and were delighted that it was on offer again last night. We started with the zucchini fritters and horiatiki salad. Yum!
Food was delicious as usual. Nostos has turned into our go-to place for special occasions !
