“I was raised in Miami, FL where I had a variety of Cuban food in the city’s most popular Cuban restaurants. I was surprised and impressed with the quality of the Ropa Vieja, plantains, Moro’s (black beans and rice cooked together), ham croquettes, and the best homemade Flan at a restaurant. The owners are from Cuba and are lovely people who maintain a spot-free commercial kitchen and use quality ingredients at a reasonable price.
The Ropa Vieja had depth of flavor and wasn’t swimming in oil or salty like it is in so many places in Miami. Bay leaves, cumin, garlic, created a savory dish with such tender beef a knife wasn’t required. The sweet plantains were plump and tender which means fully ripen plantains were used to make the perfect “Maduros”. The ham croquettes reminded me of the best I had in southern Spain - fluffy and utterly delicious! We finished our meal with flan which was another delicious offering we were not expecting as most restaurants don’t offer the original, homemade recipe. We will definitely be back for more!“
