Went here for dinner with a party of 7 and our daughter - after waiting 25 minutes the owner decided to come over and yell at us for “seating ourselves” after nobody was there to seat us. He was very angry that we decided to take all his chairs and tables when there was nobody waiting to get in. Because of this we decided to just get up and leave. Staff all drunk, including the owner who decided to chase us into the parking lot to our cars. Dirty dishes on all the tables - guess owner decided to pass on a hefty bill -

AVOID going here. We sat at a table waiting for 25min and noticed a staff was sitting at the bar wasted and barely doing her job. No one came to take our orders. No staff came up to take our orders. We also noticed 2 roaches coming out of the kitchen which made us a little uncomfortable. the Owner, who was clearly drunk, finally walks up to us to give us rude and snotty remarks and then walks away, so we decide to leave. He decides to follow us outside and harass us, trying to fight a group of 7 people, cussing at the females who didn't even say a word. Any Owner of a property who drinks his own merch while on the job and tries to pick fights with random customers should not run a business. I won't be surprised to see this place go bankrupt in a couple years. Do NOT go here.

I had Caesar salad, the romaine lettuce was deliciously charred, lots of Parmesan and baby arugula on it, just delicious! Rest of family had the bean burgers which they loved, with fries. Great selection of hot sauces. Great IPAs on draft and non alcoholic selections. Nice homey atmosphere. Will come again!

Rude and Unwelcoming
Showed up 3 minutes before opening and the owner rudely chased us away. Completely unnecessary (on a birthday nonetheless). Won’t be coming back.

Without a reservation, we tried our luck this evening and easily got a table for 6 people. We were warmly welcomed and served in a friendly manner. As in Germany, the staff had their hands full. It took some time for the food to arrive. But we were super satisfied. Everything tasted delicious, really typical American food in a great atmosphere. It was worth the wait and you have to have a little time on vacation! We felt comfortable and would like to thank you again for the lovely evening with our review!

I really want to believe that our experience at this restaurant was just a stroke of bad luck. We had been eagerly trying to dine here, but our first attempt was foiled by the limited hours (only open Wednesday-Saturday). On our second try, we arrived only to find that they open at 4 for drinks and 5 for dinner. Finally, on our third attempt, we made it right at 5 PM.
We ordered two burgers and nothing else. There were a few people eating indoors and about three groups outside. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive our burgers until 6:15 PM. When they finally arrived, they were a big disappointment—two lackluster burgers with burnt bread and burnt, frozen fries. I never leave food behind, even if I don’t finish it, but this was the first time in a long while that I didn’t even want to take leftovers home. Btw are you spraying deodorizer on the patio? I could not figure out if it was someone wearing a strong perfume or just one of those smelly things outside, but the smell was so strong and not good for when you are eating.
The waitress was good—professional and diligent—but the kitchen was a different story. As someone else mentioned in another review, perhaps the locals get a better experience. I think Putney is hurting with their restaurant industry, the Putney Diner was so bad as well, we did not get good luck at the Gleanery either and when we tried to give it another chance, they have just closed down business. I’ll give the Mockingbird another try and I will update my review for sure, so wish me luck!

So, I grade places like this on 5 categories: Quality, Service, Atmosphere, Location and Value. Because our orders never showed up I can only comment on the atmosphere and location, which are both stellar. But the service? Yeah, not so much. We walk in, and after 10 minutes the only person to come to the table was the free beer girl. Another 10 minutes and the bartender comes over and takes our orders. A meat burger and a veg burger. 40 minutes later and still no food. To add it up, at this point we'd been there an hour, talked with one employee, and had been served a free beer and a ginger ale. So, the hour goes by and we have to leave. I tell the bartender, and he says "Ok." Not, "Let me check", or "Sorry about the wait" or "we dropped it on the floor and had to start over". Just, "Ok". So, it looks like you have to be a regular to be served in this place as the locals seem to love it. Or they are reviews posted by Google employees. Best of luck when you go here. Was it really busy? 1/2 full on the deck, empty inside. Was it short staffed? Aside from the bartender, there were 2 other wait staff, (One was in training and the one doing the training wasn't doing anything else), and the cook. So, I'm not sure how a table for two falls between the cracks on a slow Friday other than incompetence or very bad training. I should have known as there was a table of 3 w/ a baby next to us and they sat there for the first 1/2 hour waiting to cash out. I'm just glad the baby was asleep...

Cute, hometown Putney VT pub! Small menu but this place has a true chef in the kitchen! Locally sourced foods, excellent bar choices and the staff is great. Expect real people, real food in a relaxed atmosphere… savor this pearl.. don’t come here if you are rushed. This ain’t no Mickey D’s.
The owner kept screaming at servers and bartender while I was there. Waited 55 minutes for 2 burgers, both not cooked correctly, I had hot fries, my dinner guest had cold fries. Then they couldn’t print a check, couldn’t take our credit card for payment. It was chaos. Loud, dirty and definitely not JDs. Wouldn’t go back if you paid me. Plus I watched the owner/cook continuously go behind the bar and did shots of tequila. Appalling.
