Super fun establishment on Maine street. Great atmosphere and decor. Food was really well prepared. Very busy place, rightfully so, get a reservation for the. Great cocktails and awesome beer selections. The banana pudding was killer good!

My husband & I had the corn fritters to start. They were delicious served with the hot honey. I had the grilled pork with a sweet potato silk & peaches. It was delicious! Service was top notch. Cute bistro in Stowe Village.

While I’m not a “regular,” I have been coming to Plate two or three times per year for a number of years. Tonight, I brought a good friend who was new to Stowe and I was excited to have her experience a restaurant that I have come to cherish. Our service was below average. The staff was clearly distracted, no one really seemed interested in us, and our check was delivered before we even said if we wanted anything else. And, regulars were clearly still paid attention to. This spot is too pricey to get off with this kind of disinterest….

I was never a Halibut fan until tonight. It was so well prepared that it soaked up all of the flavor—seasoning!!! The chicken dish according to my wife was one of the best she’s ever had. Both dishes were recommended by the all-star server Emily!!! She also recommended the homemade banana pudding!!! You cannot leave the restaurant without tasting it!!!!!

Stopped into Plate and grabbed a seat at the bar—really glad I did. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Stowe, making it a great place to relax after walking around town. Cozy atmosphere, and the vibe at the bar made it easy to settle in and enjoy. Definitely worth a visit!
It’s a great dinner spot – we went for the cocktails. We sat at the bar and our bartender, Brian made some amazing drinks. I would definitely recommend for dinner but also for cocktails.
Doubt we will return. What? What did you say? I said we won’t go back because we couldn’t hear each other over the noise and a couple of very loud patrons. Despite the mixed reviews, we decided to try Plate. Given the need for reservations and prices, we were expecting elevated dining. The restaurant is small with maybe a dozen tables and about equal amount of bar space. Everyone was dressed very casually favoring plaid shirts and blue jeans. The menu is limited. The fried oysters tasted like a hush puppies and none of us could see or taste an oyster. The sushi tuna salad – who cut this tuna? I’m quite sure a 5 year old with a dull knife could do a better job (see photo). The pasta tasted homemade and was served topped with large shaved pieces of parmesan – artsy but I would have preferred parmesan be freshly grated at the table. I enjoyed the pasta but my friend did not like it at all. The strip steak was tasty and cooked perfectly – as far as steaks go, it was good but definitely not one of those truly great steaks. The arepas just sat there on the plate looking completely out of place – it seemed like they were added to be able to claim it was fusion. We were really looking forward to the pan fried potatoes but they were mushy – nothing crispy about them. With only 4 stalks, grilled broccolini was a battle to grab and I lost but I was told they were amazing. We were very pleased that we were able to get ample water and drinks. Overall the service was good and attentive but not very friendly. But none of that matters if it’s so noisy that you can’t hear each other!
I’m a little embarrassed to admit that — despite being a local — tonight was my very first meal at PLATE. Major fail on my part, because it was easily one of the best meals I’ve had in Stowe. Every single bite was delish. We started with the tuna salad (ridiculous), then split the chicken and steak. Both were soooo good. Can’t wait to go back.
This restaurant was really nice. There was only a few vegan options. I was a bit reluctant to try the vegan crabcakes because I thought I was going to have the veggie burger, but I decided to have the crabcakes and it was absolutely incredible. It was the best thing I had here. I just wanted to say because I saw on a different Review about the veggie burger that it insinuated it was vegan, but I asked the waitress and she said that it had egg in it, so I determined not to get the veggie burger. I just wanted to let everyone know in case they mistakenly thought the veggie burger was vegan. Otherwise I had the vegan pad Thai, which was OK. It wasn’t really my favorite. I had a Mocktail, which was delicious. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant.
Nice ambience and friendly service. But similar to prior reviews the portions left much to be desired. The burger was tasty but on the smaller side for sure, and came with a tiny amount of potato side (not fries, but equivalent). Happy to pay more for an upmarket experience and typically dine at in Manhattan, but it just felt like too much for too little. $90 all in for 2 small mains and a n/a beer just seemed too much.

Normally, I’m all about supporting local businesses, but this place is a total disappointment.
Let’s talk about the food
$25 for a burger is steep, even for someone like me who lives in Manhattan. But the price isn’t the issue—the portion is. The burger patty was smaller than the tomato slice, it came with a measly 1/4 of a pickle, and exactly eight fries. And no, I didn’t eat any before taking the picture.
What’s the deal? Can’t afford the other 3/4 of a pickle? Do you split them out to other guests?
The steak? Also below average, but at least that’s just a matter of taste. Had many better.
Our experience was so bad so we skipped the dessert. Not recommended at all.
Based on previous reviews that I had read before making my reservation at Plate, I was prepared for “the best dining experience in Stowe”. However, the meal left a lot to be desired and we were unfortunately quite disappointed. I will say, the drinks were phenomenal and kudos to the bartender for such excellent cocktails. The food, on the other hand, was lackluster at best. We had the steak tartare, lobster fritters and mussels to start. The steak tartare was good, albeit on one small piece of toast and I would have liked to have had a bit more of the tartare and less toast. The fritters tasted purely of dough, and while the smoked paprika aioli beneath them was quite good, that was the only part of the dish that offered any flavor, and it was hard to tell if there were truly any lobster within each fritter. The mussels while cooked well, had a broth that lacked the robust flavor that I would have expected when reading the dish’s description. We subsequently had the potato and ale soup, this was so overwhelmingly salty that it unfortunately made it hard to finish, let alone enjoy. We paired the soup with the Brussels sprouts and bacon side dish, which was just okay - there was nothing innovative or unique to this dish. Additionally, the lighting in this restaurant was so dim that it made seeing my dining companion and the food difficult, which I understand the goal is to emit a cozy atmosphere, but this was just ridiculous. Overall, we left very disappointed and I’m quite honestly surprised by the other reviews that I had read.
We went for dinner. My vegan entree option was acorn squash stuffed with quinoa and cranberries. When it arrived it was 1/2 squash with a small amount of bland stuffing. It was more of an insignificant side than an entree. I left still hungry and dissatisfied. Service was great. We will not be back.
The best dinner I had in Stowe. The smoked trout and mussels appetizers followed by the cod and fettuccine mains were phenomenal. And I’ll remember the chocolate almond tart dessert forever - considering another trip to Stowe just to have it again!
I highly recommend coming here for dinner, and to grab reservation in advance. Thank you to the whole team at Plate for your wonderful service, and compliments to the chef!
Red wine came ICE cold - stuffed acorn squash came cold and Sat solitary on the plate - waitress didn’t know if it was supposed to be cold or hot - worst meal we’ve had in Stowe - so disappointing - spent $115 and will never go again
