Food is decent and it came out pretty quick. But for me, this is a one and done. Why? They don't have table service - you walk in and order from the counter. Then they tell you the price you pay includes a mandatory 18% tip. On top of that when you run your credit card it asks if you want to add an additional tip. Don't get me wrong - I earn money on tips so I fully get tipping - but I work damn hard for them and in my case its not mandatory or included. Here you don't even have table service its self ordering, so 18% for just bringing the food out to your table and you see the waitstaff that one and only time. How do you justify a mandatory tip for self service ordering? We even had leftovers and asked for a to go container - they pointed us to a counter where we could package it ourselves. Come on guys, you're just lucky you don't have alot of competition, but for certain you lost this customer for sure for good with that policy......bye bye and good luck!

I liked my French toast. My girlfriend did not like her breakfast sandwich, especially due to their novel take on “English muffin”. The worst part of this experience was the mandatory gratuity of 16% on self service. As an unorthodox and potentially unethical business model, the teenagers that take the orders and run the food are also shouldered with having to explain a complex issue of why their boss is saddling the customer with hidden cost offsets. I suggest you put a noticeable sign up at the order stand with a thorough explanation or better yet, charge what it costs to run a competitive business without hidden fees, as is the industry standard. Otherwise you will continue to lose customers like us.

After you seat yourself, get your own water, go up to the counter and order, they make you pay 16.7% gratuity?????? The food is absolutely tasteless my grandma had to salt her Caesar salad. No AC so by the time you eat your food you want to vomit it all up

The food was delicious, the French Toast was to die for, got the 1/2 order and a side of sausage links and was barely able to eat it all, not sure how someone could eat a full order.

I agree with the many many reviews that it's unfair to expect tipping without full service and to automatically add it in. Just because you have always had counter service, doesn't mean you can't change. Train the employees to take an order at the table, that's all you're missing. They bring the food to the table already, and the same person can take an order at the table and bring coffee rather than standing at the counter. I would have tipped 20%, for full service.

Eating here, morning or evening, is like spending time with a woman who once loved me. And she still loves me. And it’s a real place.

We were there today (April 13, 2025 from MA) and it was amazing! I had the Breakfast Reuben sandwich which I’ve never seen anywhere before. There was a slab of corned beef that was 3/4” thick, over easy egg, cheddar cheese, aioli on a home made English muffin. I can’t say enough for the food, staff and homey feel that this place has. I can’t wait to go back!!

The Hungry Carpenter is probably the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had. Homemade English muffin is beyond and the coffee is also amazing. Can’t wait to come back!

I'm not sure why 16% gratuity is added automatically to the bill. Just increase your prices by 16%. All telling me that did was annoy me. I believe legally you're able to tell them remove the automatic gratuity but gratuity should be a payment you make after you've received a service if you so choose. It shouldn't be something that's added to the bill that you pay before you receive your food or any services.

Aside from that nonsense, the food was OK. The French toast was average and the eggs were good. I think what made the toast ok was the maple syrup. Other than that it was average.

Two 5-star breakfasts at Toast & Eggs during our Waitsfield weekend. The Best gluten-free bread! A warm welcome and pleasant service both visits. Highly recommend.
