This is my favorite steak restaurant in Bellevue (In Seattle it has to be the Metropolitan Grill and in Renton it is the Melrose Grill. Those are my top 3 in the area). Their steak is always cooked to perfection as I ordered and I thoroughly appreciate and enjoy the variety of sides offered. Their table-side Caesar is excellent for those who enjoy pungent flavors of anchovies and garlic. Service staff are great. Although I tried to order white negroni but they did not stock Suze...I guess they can't have everything.
Service was horrible The waiter acted like he was doing us a favor, leaving us alone. The reality was, he had too much work on his hands.
We came to John Howie for the first time to celebrate my 41st birthday and our 20th anniversary. It is now our new favorite place, beating out The Met which is still great, but this place blew it out of the water! Our server Emil was friendly, helpful, and made our experience perfect.
Celebrated our 13th anniversary. First time for me and everything was absolutely perfect! Totally recommend!
I've dined at John Howie many times, and this visit felt different. No amuse bouche and no chocolate truffles at the end. Those little touches used to set them apart. Our entrees took a long time. The server said the chef wasn't happy and remade them, which seemed odd since all four dishes were redone. It made me wonder if the order sat before being sent and the kitchen took the blame. They now add a 20% service charge automatically. I'm fine with that since I would have tipped that amount, but I do worry the guaranteed gratuity may be eroding attention to detail. Overall, the service and small touches weren't at the level I've experienced here before. I hope it was an off night, because when John Howie is on, it's excellent.
We had already experienced John Howie Whiskey which is amazing but that location doesn't offer the table side Bananas Foster so we booked our anniversary dinner for John Howie Steak. We had the table side for two chateaubriand steak which just melts in our mouth. We had to take a moment of silence to enjoy that first bite, it was so good! And of course the table side Bananas Foster was delicious. The whole meal definitely did not disappoint. The wait staff was just as amazing. The only “negative” remark I would have is that we didn't feel the appetizer bread basket was worth ordering. It offered a variety but was dry bread like bread sticks, cracker-like wafers and the like. Nothing you can really butter. Should have gone for the salad instead.
Updating based on restaurant response. Tim, no we didn't speak to the manager. It spoils the evening even more to do that but would love to provide you with more info if you share your contact details with me. —- We had mentioned we were celebrating a birthday while reserving but no one greeted us about that or asked even once whose birthday it was etc. Service was slow also and we had to wait a very long time to even get our drink orders in. There was no talk follow up asking us about how the food was or if wanted anything else - after waiting we had to wave someone over to request extra bread. Overall pretty disappointing for spending almost $300pp
We had a chateaubriand for two with a Caesar salad and huckleberry topped NY Cheesecake. All were excellent as were the breads. Service from our server and steak/salad at tableside were wonderful. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, the experience was 10 stars.
Oscar, our server was outstanding! Food was nicely prepared. Recommend the truffle fries and devil eggs as appetizers. The oysters were fresh, creamy delicious and the Delmonico steak was great.
We were really looking forward to trying John Howie Steak, but our experience was disappointing. We ordered the Wagyu steak based on the server's recommendation, who told us it was a dry-aged steak. However, it clearly was not dry-aged, and the flavor and texture did not match what we expected. We also asked for our steak to be cooked medium, but what we received was overcooked — almost well-done and quite tough. On top of that, our server was very difficult to find throughout the meal, and we struggled to get any attention or service. Given the reputation and price of the restaurant, we expected a much better experience. I hope the team can improve consistency in both food and service.

We had a fabulous dinner here! We ordered the ceasar salad for 2, and the bursts tomato salad to start. We enjoyed some steak with the baked potato's and corn and Brussel sprout sides.
Good food and good service for a price. Not a fan of automatic 20% service charge. The check states that the establishment retains 100% of the service charge. Does that mean that it goes to staff, including the wait staff or to management?
We've been to Howie multiple times when we lived here. We came to visit for my birthday and did not live up to what we've had in the past. The food was great but our waiter was not really engaging. Took our order, brought it to us and that's about it, came back when we were done to finally check on us. No birthday dessert like we've had in the past. We were celebrating 3 birthdays. Definitely other waiters were more engaging with their tables. It was just ok and for the money we spent.
Phenomenal steaks and the halibut also had excellent flavor. The lobster mash was the highlight! Service was warm and professional. Ambiance was lovely.
