Food took forever, rice and food were undercooked, they sang happy birthday to a different couple but not my gf, the hibachi chef didn't do any tricks, the floors and tables were super sticky and on top of that a 20 percent forced gratuity
We recently went to Kyoto for a celebratory dinner with friends and had excellent food and service. I had made a reservation for 630pm and they were ready to take us back right away. Our server was so sweet, attentive, and friendly. The Chef was hilarious and talented. It was our girls first time there and they were delighted with the experience. The food was delicious. My only criticism is that the rugs all through the entryway back to the tables are sticky and the decor is bland and outdated. A quick refresh could make this place a 5-star experience.
Fantastic long time Bellingham restaurant, highly recommend. Chef Troy on hibachi is the king. Fun for the whole family! We will be back very soon!
I placed a pick up order to go on the phone. I've done this many times in the past and have gotten my full meal, this time was different. I ordered off the Hibachi menu, all three meals I ordered comes with rice of your choice and noodles along with your choice of meat. This time there was no rice or noodles, I wasn't even asked when I placed my order. Unfortunately, I didnt notice it wasnt there until I got home and the restaurant was already closed. I spent $150 for half of my meal. I used to love ordering from this restaurant, the food was always amazing but it's far too expensive to not get everything I paid for. Will no longer be returning until they shape up their business practices :(
The hibachi chef Troy was great, very kind and fun, A+. Have absolutely loved seeing him when I've come in the past. BUT this place recently went under new ownership and the owner is insane!
They messed up the gratuity fee and overcharged us, and when we proved it to him it he got mad and told us we would get kicked out if we ever came back again. I have never had a restaurant experience like this and definitely will not be coming back. The people next to us were literally gawking, they couldn't believe it.
It's a bummer because we've loved coming here for the past few years, Troy and the old staff were very kind and made for a fun atmosphere. I'll say it again, this new owner is crazy.
I'm sure plenty of people have had good experiences, but the simple act of asking why they overcharged us and trying to get an explanation freaked him out. Check your receipts!
I live in Arizona and have been seeing my brother in Hospice care while in Bellingham the past few weeks. The owners and staff at Kyoto steakhouse have taken the best care of my brothers and I during our stay.
They go above and beyond!
They deserve all the stars ⭐️ you can give.
THE BEST!!!
It was an amazing experience! They went above and beyond to accommodate us!
Fun, great food. Commanding to our special request
We decided not to stay and dine here. After walking in, the floors were all sticky and the menus were dirty too.
Go see & ask for “Bok Troy”. Absolutely hilarious, and even better cook! 20🌟. Food. Service. Atmosphere. 5 stars all around! I got chicken and the Mrs ordered steak! Phenomenal!

Thankfully Kyoto has started improving, still not where it was but the food and service is much better. Management should focus on improving the cleanliness
I went for my birthday in November and with 3 alcoholic drinks, an appetizer and 2 meals it cost about $90. We went back a few days ago and for some spring rolls and the 2 hibachi plates our bill was over $130. There was only 2 of us on our bill, for $130 we should’ve just drove down south and went somewhere nicer. This place used to be one of my favorites, i’ve never had a bad experience there (only have been there a handful of times) but this last time was enough for me to not be returning. It wasn’t nearly as busy as i’ve seen it before but yet this was the longest we’d ever have to wait to even see our waitress, after about a half hour of sitting she finally showed up with waters. A table sat down next to us about 10 minutes after we had sat down and they were completely served and getting their food by the time we were finally able to order our appetizers, we came for the sushi and when we went to order our waitress told us the sushi chef “doesn’t feel like making sushi right now” excuse me? is that not the job title? he gets to pick when he makes sushi and for what tables get it? few seconds later 4-5 plates of sushi get delivered to the table next to us. we waited another 15 minutes for our soup and salad and by the time our chef finally made it over he barely said 5 words, and just seemed angry to be there. Mind you we have a 5 o’clock reservation time so we weren’t coming before close. The floors were insanely sticky and the trays the food were on were stacked on top of OTHER FOOD. I’ve worked in restaurants and know how gross it can get back there, after seeing the bottom of a tray stacked on top of the raw chicken he was about to cook us grossed me out. Plus after this they still want to add a 20% gratuity?!? absolutely insane. every restaurant i’ve gone to that adds gratuity I normally can see why, it’s clean, money is being put back into it and the wait staff is super pleasant, but this was by far one of the most unpleasant experiences, after reading too many similar reviews to the time i had there, kyotos is going downhill.
The teriyaki chicken and Dragon Roll tasted pretty good. The tempura, however, was a bit different from what I had imagined.
We made a reservation and when we got there they said there wasn’t one. But got us in anyways. It was super packed and cramped. The chairs and tables are waaay too close. Our Waitress was ok but our cook, seemed mad he had to be there. He wasn’t friendly really or even talked to us. The last place we were at like that, he laughed and made jokes and tricks, not this guy. He seemed crabby to us. Then when we ordered they told us we couldn’t order any sushi. That the chef told our waitress he wasn’t doing sushi. That’s the reason we wanted to go there is for our 2 kids birthdays. They LOVE sushi. They were super excited for it. Yet 10 minutes later the table next to us got to all order sushi. They even gave them sushi “on the house because they made too much”. So we asked again if we could order sushi and we got the same thing. He’s not able to make sushi… We didn’t start eating until an hour and a half of being there. The place needs a total upgrade. They need to put money back into the restaurant. It’s been there for decades. The light was broke in the bathroom so they put up a clip on desk lamp and even that was broke. The mirrors were peeling, the floor and front door creaks. Feels like the front door is going to fall down when you open it. We paid almost $700 for our bill there and we could have eaten at a 5 star restaurant for that price. We all definitely will NOT be going back. I wish I would have read these reviews before going. We were reading the reviews while we were waiting for our food and they were all similar to our experience how it was going so far.
I was very disappointed with my take out experience and wouldn’t recommend for how much the food cost. When I arrived they said they didn’t get my order even though I ordered it through their website and got a confirmation email.
When I finally got my food it had mushrooms and zucchini in it even though I said I didn’t want them. Which is unfortunate because I’m allergic and had to sit there and pick everything out. Once I was finally able to eat I was left with 85% rice (they forgot the noodles) and 15% chicken and veggies. Thankfully I had yum yum sauce at home because they forgot that too. In addition, the salad was nothing more than a few pieces of lettuce.
So even though the food that I was able to eat was good, I didn’t choose there to pay $30+ for mostly rice. I’m sure the price is more understandable if you get to experience the show, but I can’t justify why take out is that expensive with what I received. To be fair I should have checked before I left, but already having to wait much longer than expected left me hangry and impatient.
