Sleeping Dog is a great little winery! Always fun to sit out in their yard and do tastings! Larry and Joyce are great hosts and very well versed in their wines and how they make their wines.
My partner and I drove from Portland to meet up with our Seattle friends for a wonderful weekend in Yakima and found ourselves at Sleeping Dog Wines, which was the main event planned for our second day. It was apparent we were driving up to someone’s property as we were warmly greeted by the winery owner and head taster, Larry to his beautiful home that overlooks the valley. It was a warm day with a shaded seating area where we could see quails freely roaming and the garden flourishing as we marveled at the unique Rosé that was hatched from the same plot of land we enjoyed it on. This experience was vastly different from our mainstream winery experience the day before where we sat in a barrel room with a modest view of the winery and had a distant relationship with our sommelier. Larry walked us through each flavor profile as he described his intention behind selecting and growing the grapes in community with his neighbors, the farmers. This was an exceptional learning process as Larry shared his intricate knowledge of wine production, the intersections of his other studies/passions and how that led to the exciting experimental and classic wine productions coming from his home. I couldn’t speak more highly of my tasting experience here and Larry’s hospitality. A sincere recommendation if you are in the area or planning to be!
Great people and wine!
We got lucky and came across Sleeping Dog Wines as we were looking for a dog friendly winery. Larry, the wine maker, is very friendly, welcoming, and told us great stories. The wines were great, we particularly liked the merlot, the wagging tail, and the port. Highly recommend, we will be back!
Every one of their wines is excellent. They have an interesting variety that spans many tastes. Their focus on quality over quantity is very evident.
Delicious wines, friendly attentive staff (especially "Joel" - she was fantastic), and their wonderful winemaker, Larry!
We met and talked with the wine maker. Did wine tasting and bought three bottles if wine. Learned some history about different ways of wine making.Thank you, Mr. Oates for a nice morning!
Absolute great place.. Very cozy with a welcome neighbor feel!
What’s on our Thanksgiving table! So excellent.
We came here and we loved the proprietor and the wines. We felt we had found a hidden gem. We bought several hundred dollars worth of wine and brought it home. So far, we have had one bottle out of 8 that didn't either have a cork that turned to sawdust or not taste anything like it did at the winery. I'm going to keep opening bottles but we'll see. All wine stored in a cool car and wine cooler with other wine that tastes fine. I'm not sure what happened, old stock? Bad area of the storage facility? Bad luck on my part? Certainly that happens. The rate of corks gone bad seems high. Maybe someone who knows more about it than I can shed some light on it?

Small winery operated out of wine maker's garage. Very sweet guard dog attending. Excellent wines, several grape varieties I wasn't familiar with, so I learned a lot. A good stop if you're up for the drive.
Tastings out in the vineyards are the best
High quality wines, even higher quality people!
