We keep hoping this place can get its act together but after last evenings experience we wont be coming back for a long time. Sweet and sour chicken was so dry it hurt to chew, absolutely not fresh. If someone in a party is gluten sensitive they would still like their food to have flavor. Gluten free soy sauce exists. Cornstarch is a great substitute for flour in a lot of dishes. Payment system went down, our server had us Venmo payment to the wrong person Venmo does not refund. There wasn’t even any music playing. Dead silence. I wouldn’t even care about atmosphere if the food and service was good, not even great or spectacular. Just good.
If I could give no stars I would. I ordered the General Tso Chicken and Edamame. The chicken looked like it was covered in ketchup and the Edamame was definitely frozen. The chicken was so bad I asked if I could have something else and the waitress actually tasted a piece and said there’s nothing wrong with it. Then took it back to the cook and he said too bad there’s nothing wrong. I should have figured when we walked in and we’re the only people there. The view is great but that’s all this place has going for it.
Come to this restaurant with an open mind. Many of the things other reviewers have said about the space are true, but the hospitable owner is clearly working hard to bring out its full potential.
Some of the dishes here are truly special, and not just by island standards. The grilled Qing Jiang fish is particularly delicious and bountiful. Call ahead, bring a few adventurous friends, and soak in the spectacular view!
View from The Top is breathtaking. Sooo much improvement since last time. There is new ownership that really shows! I'd recommend going now to experience the amazing food and then keep coming back to watch the progress as they improve and expand the back decking. There will be outside seating and live music.
Oh, and did I mention the food? I've never had truly authentic Chinese food before. I must say what a true delight it is. Still in the process of trying everything on the menu, but very impressed so far. There are simple dishes, such as vegetable chicken or broccoli beef, classic egg foo yong, but prepared more authentically. We tried the fried potatoes. I know. But you'll actually love it. Try it all.
Very close to the Clinton ferry dock so you can stop in as you arrive on Whidbey.
Also, there is some night life there. Unlike other spots, it stays open til 2
Can't say enough about how pleasantly surprised we have been! We've been welcomed by Jennifer the Boss Lady and given excellent service. Will be going back very soon!
I’ve wanted to try this place since moving to Whidbey and it didn’t disappoint! The food was great, especially the green onion pancake and egg drop soup. Next time I will bring friends so I can try some of the larger, more traditional dishes. This restaurant has better hours than most on Whidbey and can accommodate bigger groups, which is rare. The exterior and parking lot are a little run down, but the inside is freshly updated. The staff are very welcoming. 10/10 recommend!
Things are different now. This restaurant has changed from the murky times years ago where we would order any dish and get the same mystery brown sauce with overcooked vegetables.
We got takeout on a lark awhile back, and we were stunned. Ingredients were good, food cooked just right, and care put into the dishes. We have been ordering carryout on occasion ever since, and every time it's been consistently good.
At this point, it's becoming our go-to carryout place on the south island. I'm really glad to get this option!
Yesterday I ordered mushu vegetables and my wife ordered sweet and sour chicken, and ordered two sets of egg rolls to boot. It was all great. Ordering on the ferry to Clinton, it was ready in time for the drive home, which was great for a day where we were tired after travel.
If you were put off by the Hong Kong Gardens you knew 5 years ago, you should really check out who they are now.
There were definitely some highlights, but overall our experience missed the mark. Both my mother-in-law and I enjoyed our entrées. The beef and broccoli was flavorful, and she liked her dish as well. The egg flower soup was interesting but fine, and the appetizer was tasty despite being served on a plate that looked like it hadn’t been fully cleaned, as it was dirty with something dried on.
Unfortunately, the lack of cleanliness really stood out. My entrée and her cranberry juice both had hairs in them, my water glass was dirty, and the table was sticky. It also took nearly 20 minutes after getting our drinks for anyone to take our food order.
We were originally told raspberry iced tea wasn’t available, only to see another table ask for it. Oddly enough, that same table was later informed it wasn’t available either, so clearly some confusion there. They were also out of teriyaki chicken, which was disappointing.
The ambiance didn’t help either. Some lights were out, fake flowers sat in a vase of water, and the backyard area was cluttered with broken furniture and junk, even though it could be a beautiful space.
It’s unfortunate because the food itself showed promise, but the overall lack of cleanliness and attention to detail means I won’t be returning.
Karaoke was excellent, lots of people participated. Game of Pool available..
Smoke room, lots of liquor available. Didn’t get to use there food services, lots of room for parties!
Are you guys still operating? The number doesn’t work.

Flies EVERYWHERE. Tables and floors are sticky, plates are not clean. Food has no taste, came here for the spicy shredded potatoes because people said it was good, but it was not. it was supposed to be crunchy but it’s super soggy. DO NOT COME.

Great grill fish dish, highly recommend! Good portion for four people. Great view out looking the water. Good choice for dinner while waiting for the ferry line to go down :)

Grilled fish requires reservation at least one day in advance
The fish weighs 8 pounds. The skin and meat are grilled/fried to a crispy texture.
The side dishes include fish tofu, dried tofu, cabbage, green vegetables and cauliflower. The portion is enough for at least 4 people.
It was very enjoyable at first, but after eating too much it became a bit boring.
The environment is very average. There is a big spider in the toilet. The temperature was 90 degrees that day. There is no air conditioning in the room. You are given disposable chopsticks.
Generally speaking, if you are obsessed with grilled fish, you can come here. The portion, price, and taste are very good.

The shrimp was tough and chewy. I will never return. It was not worth the money!

A very casual and niche place for Chinese food. Their fried fish is one of the best in the greater Seattle area. The owners are very nice people and it’s been fun going there.
