The best bbq in Spokane by far. There really is no comparison! Hushpuppies, brisket, ribs and chicken! A southern oasis!

Closed since October? No sign on front of building but there is a sign on the back door.

ADDENDUM: AS REQUESTED BY THE OWNER - I have lowered the rating FROM 2-Stars to 1-Star. The owner's response and apathy are beyond sardonic - it denotes a complete capitulation that she exceeded her abilities to manage a singular, small business. NOW, I can see why the employees are so marginalized & bitter.Original:Just disappointments in all aspects The prices of decent Southern food in an odd atmosphere of genuine disinterest due to apathetic staff, confused staff, strange open hours, and long waits for take-aways make Betty Jean's BBQ a sure miss. Oh, BTW Betty Jean's prices average more then T&T's fantastic BBQ offerings and you always feel welcome despite occasional long waits, high prices, and limited indoor seating. So it IS the management and atmosphere that makes good BBQ and unbearable experience. Shame too

North Carolina style bbq in Spokane’s south hill. Ordered ‘The RDU’ (takeout) with brisket and chicken paired with green beans and slaw. Food was ready for pickup within 15 minutes from ordering. Comfortable, large booths, welcoming and friendly. Looking forward to eating in-restaurant next time! Parking is behind restaurant.

Food is trash. Woman (owner) is disgusting and racist. Had to file a police report as well as a few other things. Luckily my phone was recording-caught all her disgusting slurs and threats. 0/10 would recommend.

Just picked up an order to go. The restaurant is nicely decorated and smelled like terrific bbq, but there was a boisterous group holding a loud meeting so we purchased to go. The food: very salty, overly spicy. Mac and cheese a glue-y thick glob. Fries, floppy and over-salted. The price is higher than other restaurants serving good barbecue, so it's unlikely we'll return. We do like to support local businesses and would give them another chance--in house rather than take out, so adjustment or requests might be made.

Had a team BBQ to celebrate my team at Jamie Bowman State Farm and Betty Jean's catered the party for us. Best BBQ I have ever had and such friendly help! So easy to get it set up as well. All around amazing experience.

First off the staff was awesome and very kind. The food however I was not impressed at all. They were out of every side I wanted so the only options were sides I don't like. The sausage was sub par and the brisket tasted like dry roast. I was not happy spending 28 on a meal I didn't even finish or enjoy. I had high hopes for this place but I have had way better here in Spokane. This place isn't even in my top 5.

Delicious dinner! I ordered the 12 piece fried shrimp with incredible Mac and Cheese and slaw and was not disappointed! Incredible flavor, fresh ingredients and friendly quick service, will be back soon!

Mostly good food, friendly service, prices high in some cases Well the meat is good. Brisket yes. Not too fatty or salty and good taste Pulled pork was well pulled, nicely smoked, a little too salty. Would have loved bbq sauce on it Beans are good and of the vinegar, not molasses type Sweet corn is sautéed and good Salad with meat in it -- it's supposed to be chicken Caesar. They were out of chicken so I got brisket, which was fine with me. The lettuce part of the salad is about 2 handfuls of greens. They have a bottled Caesar in a cup on the side. Also croutons and a few onions. For this-- the vegetable part-- $14.50. That my friends is too much. I am not one to complain about a $20 sandwich. I think it's fine the plate of meat with 2 sides costs what it does. The salad price is not in line. Now added to that $14.50 is another $2 for chicken and $3.50 for brisket. Now I have a $17.50 salad. Nope. Pricey. Bathroom grade: A- 2 single serve gendered restrooms, clean, ADA accessible . They have a male and female sign left over from the prior Thai restaurant. Let's get rid of those and make both of them all- gender bathrooms to show you welcome diverse folks ( and also it makes the lines move faster) I would return to try their fried chicken sando because I do like to try those everywhere, and I'd get a plate here again, but no on the salad

Absolutely love this place. Came in and there was only a few people, we ordered Ribs, pulled pork, coleslaw and hush puppies. The flavor on the ribs was delicious, it had a nice thin crust and melted in my mouth, I dislike coleslaw as a rule but the flavor and the consistency was very good. Hush puppies were crisp on moist on the inside and you can order cinnamon butter , which I recommend. The pulled pork was also nicely prepared, nice and salty but not too salty, just the right combo. We will be back soon and is the best BBQ in Spokane. Also, their music is 70's and 80's.

Maybe a little biased here, as I am affiliated with the owner in a previous profession. Having had his and his wife's cooking, I was talking it up big time. And boy was I right. Veteran owned/family operated business that is sure to please. Do yourself a favor and stop by for lunch or dinner. I came all the way from Michigan for a bite!

Such excellent food! The most tender and flavorful ribs we’ve ever had. The smoked chicken was awesome too with just the right spicing and almost melts in your mouth. Spicy, peppery bbq sauce that compliments the meat. Really nice people. Please give it a try - you’ll be back! Hint: The entrance and parking are in back.
