While at the dentist two weeks ago, dental X-rays showed a hole in one of my molars. I was referred to a specialist who I don’t see until Monday. After seeing my dentist again he ordered another prescription so it was off to Olympia to pick it up.
The script needed to be taken with food so it was off to find dinner. A quick search and we were right next to the Viking.
It is definitely an older building and has been around a long time. It was clean inside although there was still a faint odor of cigarette smoke from years of smoking patrons. It was not a deal breaker, especially as I am allergic to smoke.
Being a bar/lounge, it was dark inside so it took a bit to acclimate my eyes. There were several tables on what looked like an old dance floor so Ray and I sat up there.
The bartender came right over with menus. She was very friendly and welcoming. She immediately went over the specials which were on the board but on the opposite side of where we were sitting. The NY strip with baked potato, salad, and garlic bread for $17.95, sold both Ray and me. Medium rare, and loaded baker and honey mustard dressing and she was off.
Our salads came out first and they were huge!!! Lettuce, tomato, black olives on the side and cheese. All very fresh looking and tasting.
The cook served us. He likes to go a little bit rare on the steaks and told us he would throw them back on the grille if they were too rare. They were perfect!!!
The loaded butter for the baked potatoes, was well seasoned, and very good. It was served in a generous sized container. Ditto with the sour cream. The garlic bread was well seasoned too.
The cook came out to personally check to ensure the steaks were to our liking. That was a very nice touch and much appreciated.
While the Viking might not be much to look at from the outside, or on the inside, the service and the food more than makes up for the building. We will definitely be back!!! I want to check out their breakfast. If breakfast is anything like our dinner, we won’t be disappointed.

Only place in town to get a decent breakfast. Early bird special M-F 8am to 10am. Order must be in kitchen by 10am. Otherwise it's regular menu prices.
They make their own gravy and biscuits. Not a mix. Not overspiced or anything weird bougie cra*! Coffee or a small juice comes complimentary with all Early Bird Specials. Love the waitress, sweet with a side of sass.
It's a bar, leave your kids at McDonald's Playground and go get your breakfast...

It's a bar with really good burgers. Hubby and I had mushroom Swiss burgers. He had the sweet potato fries and I had the fresh cut fries, both were delicious and cooked to perfection. Son had philly cheese steak and said it was good.
