The food and service were great. Very tasty meal and well prepared. All of the staff were very friendly and offered great recommendations. I will visit again.

A Meal Made with Heart

This isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a dream made edible. You can taste the passion in every bite, especially if you trust their recommendations (we did, and every single one was phenomenal). The team served with warmth and harmony, making the whole experience feel like a gift.

If I could offer one idea: a very small (1/3 of a piece) bread service—like that rye with honey butter—could be a beautiful welcome from the chef. A quiet, generous note to begin the story.

Come hungry. Leave moved.

I had driven by John’s many times and finally my wife and I decided to try it. We were not disappointed. From the moment we walked in the service was awesome. Candace, our server was excellent! The food and drinks were great. We are definitely going to come back.

The Brussels sprouts are amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend this place.

We have been to John's grill a few times. Most recently for a birthday dinner and brought our 11 month old son. Food was amazing and our server was great! We had an amazing time. Highly recommended!

UPDATE! 1.14.25 After the review below, I was contacted directly by Chris at John's Grill who offered to make things right!
We will ferry over in the near future and let you know how it goes! VERY IMPRESSED that John's Grill reached out to me directly and just didn't let it slide! They really care about their customers and their reputation! I am certain that our next experience will be much better! Stay Tuned

Original Review: Dined with a party of 4 on NYE 24. Made reservations on a suggestion from a friend. We ferried over to MUK from Whidbey for the evening. Crab cake as an app was good but about 1/2 of the size of the table next to us. My wife had Salmon Caesar and the King Salmon was quite fishy tasting. She didn't finish it. My steak Oscar Special was disappointing. Potato Au Gratin was a nearly burnt mass that was unrecognizable as potato anything. Steak temp was Medium Rare as ordered but literally could not cut it with the steak knife. The side vegetable was some sort of gourd/squash. The steak had a heavily seasoned (Allspice??) butter that overwhelmed the steak and was not a good pairing with beef at all. Our friends had the Scallop Risotto and it was very salty (as others have reviewed) and the Steak Oscar Special ($59 ea) with the same comments as above. The steak was near a shoe insole in toughness and appearance. It was thin and unbelievably tough. $217 per couple was a total waste. We were too embarrassed to send anything back as we invited our friends to join us and ultimately had to apologize about our choice repeatedly. I just don't know what happened. Johns Grill was well regarded by another friend of ours who is more of a regular. Great expectations as the location is quaint and bar looks cool! We are just not sure we will give them another chance. So Sorry! MR

A bit hard to figure out how to enter the dine area not much signage. No parking on busy nights. Food was OK not really a grill.

We had a delicious dinner with very friendly and accommodating staff. My husband had the duck, and I had the salmon. Both were well seasoned and prepared.

My husband and I went for our anniversary. It was delicious! The two types of bread and butter were perfectly paired. The brussel sprouts were different than I've had anywhere else, tangy with a subtle heat. The crabcake (appetizer, but should be an entree! ) was as big as the appetizer plates! It was so good! Hubs had a burger, and I tried the Cajun shrimp and grits. I'm still thinking about them! The flavors of Cajun seasoning mixed with the parmesan grits... I don't have words. It was the star of the night. I'm definitely going back for that again. Bonus was a free dessert for our anniversary. A peach cake with cream cheese frosting and hazelnuts. Oh, and I spotted on my husband's Blackberry Bramble. Yummy! Highly recommend!

Four of us went for dinner on a Wednesday night. We ordered 2 mango daiquiris, a Mai Tai and a beer. The daiquiris were not icy at all, more like a puree and came with a Mexican salt on the rim. The salt ruined a mediocre drink.
Halibut and chips were not seasoned and the "chip" were flat cold pancakes, beef stroganoff had maybe 4 mushrooms and little sauce, seafood linguine was good, but I never found the promised crab and lastly, the salmon and broccoli rabb was okay.
For the price we paid, I doubt we'll return. Sad, as this was a favorite of ours.

Very expensive for the food quality. We won't go back. The beef stroganoff was so tough my husband couldn't eat it. My pork chop was well done and I asked for it pink. Horribly disappointing
