My favorite restaurant! We love The Coalman, the food is fantastic, the people are great and the ambience is amazing. If you're looking for somewhere that offers food on another level, an excellent wine selection (they even have a wine club) and just a great place to be, this is it. Best of all, it's reasonably priced!

First time for us at The Coalman, last night, and we can’t wait to get back there! Fun cocktails, great appetizer special, along with the perfect salmon, salad and chickpea fritters! Loved it! … fun to pick our wine off the shelf too! Highly recommend!…. Did I mention the wonderful Pavlova dessert? 😉.. Go!

We had dinner at The Coalman last night, and it was absolutely outstanding! The service was warm and attentive, with staff offering thoughtful recommendations that enhanced our experience. We especially appreciated learning that many of the menu items are crafted using fresh, local ingredients; this summer offering specials with ingredients sourced in partnership with the Bellevue Farmers Market. Every dish felt carefully prepared and full of unique, well-balanced flavors that showcased real culinary craftsmanship. We’ll definitely be making The Coalman a regular spot—it's just that good!
A real gem of a restaurant. The bites are inventive and delicious and the service was delightful. A great place to bring out of towners or visit for a fun date night.

We love this neighborhood spot! Amazing food and great wine & cocktails. Above all, the staff are so welcoming and great. I highly recommend their dinner service and their happy hour (currently 3-5). Recommendations: any of their specials, their (vegetarian) lasagna, chicken pot pie, savory cheesecake, all the apps. They also have a wine club you can look up on their website. Definitely recommend this place for a date, after work to wait for traffic to die down, a special occasion or family meal. They have some cute outdoor seating and are family friendly. I would recommend reservations or at least looking but they also have a small bar you can sit at. On weekends I recommend a reservation as they are in a smaller space (don't let the location across from the Newcastle library in the shopping plaza fool you-this is a great gem). You will feel comfortable as you are, or dressed up here too. The friendly owner is often around to welcome you and make sure you are having a great experience! Parking is easy, it's friendly to persons with a disability, and there are vegetarian options. I am sure you can ask about other dietary restrictions. They have a great vibe and lovely art.

Great happy hour! And they had a wine tasting going on so we couldn't help ourselves 😄
Very nice wine bar. Excellent service. Good mixed drinks.
Popped in for a quick breakfast with mother. Had no idea the breadth of product available inside. We had a wonderful morning and can't wait to return.
This is a GREAT place! 4 of us went for a Girl Night out and the food was AMAZING. Great menu with fun choices. Great Wine selection as well. The service was great and we met the owner who was super nice as well. We will be coming back for more!
Fried Olives, Deviled Eggs, Chicken Pot Pie and Lasagna were delicious and unique. Can't wait to try more!

Hidden little gem. Had amazing food and good atmosphere. Everything we ordered did not disappoint- deviled eggs, carrot tahini dip, burrata, duck confit sliders, braised lamb plate and closed with affogato and warm crisp cake.
Best happy hour in town! Great service, yummy food, and great beverage options. Newcastle needed a place like this.
Way overpriced for mediocre food. My friend and I are not big eaters and the sizes were very small and the price expensive. We shared a salad and lasagna and had two glasses of wine off the happy hour menu. We also shared a dessert and it was $100 before tip.
Disappointing to see Ann here. Rude, bad at her job, snarky. Owner Jen should look into this one.

If you’re looking for a slice of Seattle’s big-city vibe without venturing into the city, this café-restaurant is an absolute gem nestled right in Newcastle. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by an upbeat yet relaxed atmosphere with music thoughtfully selected by the staff, making you feel like you've stepped into a cool urban café. It’s clear the team has put a lot of heart into the upscale and welcoming ambiance.
The staff here are incredibly warm and welcoming; they go above and beyond to make every visit feel special. Annie, Bella, and Mikaila, in particular, always ensure our experience is fantastic. Their hospitality is next level, so much so that even my 4-year-old daughter loves coming here with me – she’s treated like a little VIP every time! They’ve created an environment that feels comfortable and inviting for everyone, whether you’re a regular or a first-time guest.
As for the food, the menu is as eclectic as it is delicious. There’s something for everyone, and you can tell each dish is crafted with care. The coffee is out of this world – rich, smooth, and full of flavor – easily one of the best around. And if you’re here for dinner, don’t miss the cocktails! They’re perfectly mixed, with unique flavors that match the spirit of the place.
This is not your typical suburban café, nor is it part of the usual chain-restaurant crowd. Every visit here is an experience, and you can really feel the love that goes into it. It’s a true hidden gem, standing out proudly among the standard options. Highly recommend checking it out for a taste of the city vibe right in the heart of the suburbs!
