friendly service, good beers, not too noisy and has snack food

Refused to serve us just because we had vertical California IDs. Don’t come here if you’re from out of town and younger because they will probably just do the same thing.

Bartender would not let us in with real IDs doesn’t like tourists. Do not come here this bar profiles people because they look young and have cali ids. Lost out on money because the bar tender doesn’t understand what a California ID looks like.

Wouldn’t let us in at 7:00PM because we had vertical ID’s. Don’t go here if you’re in your 20’s I guess.

If you want an old school tavern, this is it. Not flashy. Not exciting. It's just an old tavern.

The Gateway was an incredible find! A low-key, local bar that has everything you could want, pool, darts, cheap drinks and, of course, fantastic bar tenders! Kristina is always so kind and great at what she does! If you find yourself nearby, I would highly recommend stopping in to the Gateway.

We came across the Gateway looking to decompress after long days while on an extended work assignment in Port A. Our first impression was that this was a locals-only bar where outsiders might not be welcome. This proved to be furthest from the truth. Their head bartender, Kristina, soon made our small group feel like she’d known us for years, and we were welcomed in like honored guests. The Gateway became our regular post-work hangout site, where we could play pool, darts, pick out songs on the jukebox and just generally decompress without ever feeling rushed. The regulars also made us feel welcome, and showed us how to use the electronic dart board or shared news of the day. The food is not much to speak of, but the drinks are good and fast to arrive. The Gateway is as authentic old-school Port Angeles as it gets: a little rough around the edges, but you’ll be made to feel like an old friend as soon as you step inside.
