Be honest with yourself. You’re here because you’re hungry. That’s fine! You didn’t seek Carlita’s out. You just happen to be looking for some food and here you are. Maybe you’re like myself and saw that Panda Express is open but happened to walk past a place offering Mexican food. Whatever the reason, you’re likely not alone.
I’m here to tell you to curb your expectations. This isn’t Pancheros or Chipotle. This is Carlita’s. It’s more expensive than the competitors and the food isn’t as good. It’s not bad food. It’s just not great food.
I could be totally wrong though. Maybe this is a Pullman 9 and the community here is aggressively okay with that. But I want you to know that this is an Iowa City 5 and that this place is aggressively okay.
I can only speak for Carlita’s burritos. I feel like the options are thin. Not much for vegetarians or vegans. Only one type of rice. Appropriately portioned for one person — not a single stomach more.
I’ve gotta catch a bus. Otherwise, I don’t have much else to say and maybe that’s enough information to help you decide between a mediocre pizza, mediocre sandwich, mediocre Chinese food, and this aggressively okay Mexican food.
Best of luck, consumer!

This is from 2013 to 2017 but, the manager there has some MAJOR attitude

Terrible service. The wait times are ridiculous, the employees are just hanging out not doing their jobs. The only reason this place gets business is because there’s so few options on campus.

Poor service. It is the third time this is happening to me. The employee was hostile, I could not complete what I was saying, and was made to rush through my order even though I was not stalling the queue. The food is good, if you manage to tell what you want, and if the employees are patient.

Seemed understaffed, but the food was good.
It’s okay. greasy but they take RDA so it’s a 4/5. Also only 1/4 as good as chipotle or qudoba
Poor service. Food is seasoned weird. My quesidilla tasted more like a hot dog for some reason
Service was normal but street tacos were dry, tiny and seasoned weird. No reason to go here over panda.

I would rather go over to Taqueria Las Torres on N Grand Ave and get hit by the train than eat this food.
Poor service. Bland food.
Great food, but poor customer service. I wanted a Casadilla with more than just chicken, but instead of the employee asking if that's all I wanted they directed me to register. I felt rushed, and didn't get what I wanted. I asked for salsa and this is how much I got, about enough for a bite. I like a lot of salsa with my food, but before I could ask for more than what she gave me she left to help someone else. Given that the restaurant was busy I give the new students the benefit of the doubt. But the students who work there need to improve on their customer service skills. As a former fine dining server on a cruise ship, it is imperative to be both quick, and have great customer service skills in the food industry. Would love to come back to Carlitas over the course of my 4 years at WSU, but the service must improve.
