Fresh, flavor explosion. Homemade pineapple habanero salsa was amazing along with a mild tomatillo salsa. The food was so farm to table fresh. Loved it!! I had the black bean and avocado nachos and the turmeric shrimp with pineapple mango salsa. Delicious.

Stopped by with co-workers for lunch. One had been here previously and said the menu was different than their previous visit. We sat at the large table, which served as a community table, but had plenty of elbow room. I ordered the pork mole tacos, and they were delicious. I also got to try the pasteles (traded a taco with my friend), plaintain chips, and the toppers on the pulled pork sandwich (pickled hibiscus cucumbers?). Everything was delicious. Sodas were served in a bottle with a glass of ice. It took a bit of time for the food to come out, but it was worth it.

First time here and we were NOT disappointed! We got a salad, nachos & corn. Everything was amazing and delicious. The flavors were so good and fresh, Everything had so much flavor. The server was very sweet and good at her job. Very reasonable prices. We left feeling full and healthy. Can't wait to go back and try more.

Wow! Was not expecting such excellent food. The chef is French trained? We are so lucky to have such a place in Shelton. Hands down best nachos ever. Handmade chips? Pickled radish? Unbelievable!!! Prices are good too. Menu is entirely gluten-free. They also have brunch, which I'm looking forward to trying.

I'm not even sure where to begin. I first heard about Mestizos about a year and a half ago. Unfortunately, it took me way to long to try it.
I've tried a little of everything from here and I've never been disappointed. The one down side (could be an upside, so hear me out) is they do run out of things quickly. But considering everything is made from scratch and sourced locally, can't really be mad at that.
The restaurant itself is clean and comfortable atmosphere. Plenty of room to not feel closed in. And the art that is on the walls is something to be looked at.
The staff is incredible! The chef/owner, his mom, and the waitress are the kindest people. And if they have the time, they'll gladly come have a conversation with you.
Which brings me to the service. Look, it's a 3 man show. One cook, one doing dishes, and usually one serving. This isn't going to be a quick in and out. Go sit, drink, and converse while waiting on your food. It's done from scratch with love and attention to detail. You really can't beat it.
I know I'll be going back several times, simply because it's a gem in the small town of Shelton. If you haven't given it a try, you really should.

So, picture this: my hometown Shelton, the land of surprises. I returned with my husband and a buddy for dinner, ready for some culinary magic. Our server, bless their heart, forgot to mention they were playing hide and seek with the menu items. Like, surprise, you can't order that! The potato dish? More like a potato swimming pool with a paprika party crasher. The cabbage salad? Well, it played it safe, a bit too safe, like a wallflower at a party. And the fried cheese tacos? Oh, sorry, they were playing hooky, so we ended up with the shy shrimp ceviche. But hey, at least they were on the menu! Price-wise, it is what it is. Sadly, this culinary adventure didn't leave us craving an encore. What a rollercoaster ride of flavors and surprises!

Yumm!!!! The food was really, really good. The only reason they didn't get a 5 from us is because they were so slow. In their defense, they had 14 people show up at the same time and they only have one chef and one server. So be cautious if you are in a hurry. But, we will for sure go back for the tasty dishes!
