Almost the little engine that could…
Stopped in on our way home from a weekend of backpacking, and Cascadia Cafe was just the kind of quirky roadside stop you hope exists but rarely find. First off: gluten-free burger buns. A rare win for those of us who refuse to let dietary restrictions derail post-hike cravings. The burgers? Solid. But the house-made potato salad? Oh, they *really* wanted us to try it. Like, menu-highlighted, server-hyped, might-have-chanted-it-if-we-hesitated kind of pushy. But hey, it delivered. Creamy, tangy, just enough crunch. I’d hike back for that alone.
The vibe is a charming mashup of railcar nostalgia and “Grandma’s been collecting train-themed knick-knacks since ‘54.” If you don’t leave knowing what a caboose looked like in 1902, you weren’t paying attention.
Bonus points to our server who bantered with us like we were old regulars and not just a quintet of dirt-streaked backpackers with questionable sock odors. That kind of playfulness is rare and appreciated.
So why not five stars? Ah, the milkshake betrayal! I wanted rich, velvety chocolate. What I got was milk, vaguely remembering cocoa’s existence. Not thick, not decadent, just... there. Like it forgot why it showed up to the party.
Still, if you’re passing through Skykomish, this spot is worth a detour. Just maybe grab your milkshake elsewhere, or tell them to add an extra scoop and a prayer.

I loved the fish and chips, crispy and perfectly fried! The tartar sauce was so tasty, even better than what I’ve had before. The clam chowder was also really good. Friendly service and such a beautiful little town. You can even see the train go by right in front of the place, so cool. Skykomish is a hidden gem!

Incredible breakfast! Stopped here on a trip across the state and really glad I did! I had the “train wreck” breakfast, very delicious and plenty to eat. Don’t pass this hidden gem the next time you are on route 2

Great restaurant place if you are heading up highway 2 before a hike! We loved this place, it’s so reasonably priced, the server was wonderful (our coffee never made it to the bottom before he asked if we wanted more) and all of the food was incredible. Our group got the eggs Benedict- which was the best I’ve had in a long time (their hollandaise sauce reminded me of what my mom made growing up and was actually tangy enough!) and the Trainwreck (which was a huge portion) and the biscuits and gravy (also SUPER good) and the basics hashbrowns with eggs and sausage! The homemade jelly was SO good! Overall I would recommend this place to all our family and friends!

Great local place, good food, great service, small town feel. Nice selection of beer. Love to support the small local businesses for lunch after a ski day!

This was one of the best burgers I've had in years, there was this one girl Becca and she was so nice got us everything we needed and the other people even though she was the only waitress working there. She definitely deserves a raise or advance.
This place is amazing, it’s so cool it’s a nice little restaurant with a hotel and the food is amazing. I would definitely come back. If you are in the area and hungry go here.
