Hillyard bar off the beaten path. Good food drinks and party folk that know how to have fun. Their brisket is the bomb, worth the trip just for the food alone. Make sure you Google directions, not easy to explain location. This place changed ownership! Now called, Bulldogs famous BBQ and brews. New look inside is very nice. BBQ and smoked meats are delicious! All of them! I recommend their food menu to anyone. The taste is GRRRREAT! 1 BLOCK WEST OF FREYA AND QUEEN, east Hillyard. Breakfast, lunch, & dinner served??? 3 thumbs up, loll

While the name is new apparently the food choices remain mostly the same. While looking for a place to eat we remembered the Dogtown Taphouse and BBQ. I greatly enjoyed the Cortez pork sandwich. The BBQed pulled pork was cooked just right. The toppings we very appreciated and tasted great. We tried the BBQ beans and the potato salad. We had a wonderful time visiting with the staff and plan on bringing a bunch of friends. The peach cobbler was exceedingly tasty, I want some more. You know the old saying, "you can't judge a book by its cover, well it is a true statement here. The food and the staff provided a super experience, very glad we stopped by! The name is changed and apparently the food is still great , look for the "Bulldogs Famous BBQ and Brew if you want a flavorful meal and a pleasant experience!

Ok when we showed up it was a little sketchy to say the least. The smell when we first walked in smelled like a meat locker so we were kind of scared.. lol. But once we went into the bar/restaurant area we were greeted instantly. Our sever was amazing and the food was outstanding! I ordered the Kennel Club and it was hands down the best club sandwich I’ve ever had. The Mac and cheese side option was good but kind of lacked flavor, but the cheese dip appetizer was amazing! Definitely will be going back to try more.

Was a little off the beaten path, had prompt friendly service, my order was to go. Brisket was some of the best ever, the pulled pork was dry. Not a deal breaker for me, sometimes these are hit and miss and will be back. Sides were good. Would give it a 4 1/2 if I could.

Three of us decided to try a new place for ribs. It's in an industrial area of Hillyard, and a little out of the way. Walking up to the steps to one side was a huge smoker and outdoor seating area. Inside had that smoky meat aroma that makes your mouth water. Everything was fairly clean and new, they have been there about 3 years.Husband had the ribs, and they were pretty tasty. My son wanted the pulled pork sandwich, but it wasn't quite ready from the smoker yet. I was really wanting some smoked turkey in a sandwich. Not ready either. We both settled on the Hawaiian Sub which was good.

Don't be put off by the location. The parking lot is a bit dark, but once you get inside the staff is friendly, the seating area is clean and spacious, and the food is quite good. They offer darts, multiple sports channels, and karaoke 3 days a week. If you're looking for a chill bar to enjoy some BBQ, this is the spot.

We were greeted before we walked in by an older man who told us how good the ribs were that he just pulled off the smoker. Walked in, bar atmosphere, not full, sat right down at a table. Two servers who didn't seem too busy. They kept walking past our table and we were not acknowledged for the 22 minutes we were seated. I really wanted to like a new smokehouse but I am not even surprised that they have to offer specials to get customers in. We left without ever even talking to a server or bartender. You probably have to be a 'regular' to get service here.

Everything about this place was unexpected. From the weird location to the delicious food. If you're looking for great service and amazing BBQ it's tucked away on a little dirt road in Dogtown.

Mandi the bartender was fantastic. Friendly, and quick to serve a drink. Met Bob who talked to me about their BBQ. The food was fantastic. Chill spot off the beaten path. This place is a gem.

We have given this place two tries. First time they gave us a menu with most items scratched off. We were told that they sold a lot of their food for Hillyard days. I ordered pulled pork, beans and fries. The flavor was good. Service was good. Second time we went they again gave us a menu with a lot of the menu items crossed off. We did get to try the ribs. They had a good flavor, not great. The potato salad was a little too tangy for my taste. I realized that most of the people didn't go in there for the food so let's look at it as a beer joint. Well we asked for a pitcher of beer, the waitress brought us a 1/3 of one. She said the keg blew and she was waiting for someone to come there and change it because she wasn't going to do it. She charged us for a half of a pitcher. Later we decided to order one more pitcher of a different kind and here she came with another 1/3 of a pitcher that she was going to charge us half for because that keg had also blown. . I told her no, fill it up with something else. They were supposed to have karaoke but that never happened. I could see the kitchen as I walked to the bathroom and all I saw in there was a crockpot. The bartender kind of hinted to the fact that the owner has been taking a lot of trips and not been paying a lot of attention to the bar. She also said they didn't serve food for the Hillyard days so it sounds like she was saying that was just an excuse used on trip one. We won't be going back.

Place is sort of out of the way but I've never had such delicious brisket. Try the dip sandwich with a side of beans, you won't regret it.

The Brisket here is Unbelievable ? we had the Brisket Sandwich and the Brisket Mac ?? Perfectly Smoked and sooo good. Doesn't need the sauce but it was too delicious to pass on. Not to mention the perfectly pickled Deviled Eggs ? compliment the Brisket in a ratatouille moment that'll knock your socks off!

Amazing BBQ! The brisket was perfect and the sauce was delicious. Highly recommend checking this place out. We had the brisket Mac and cheese and brisket sandwich, both were delicious.

Dogtown Taphouse is located in an odd location , but well worth the search. I came to Dogtown for the BBQ but ended up staying for the Karaoke. The karaoke was very entertaining with a amazing Elvis impersonator and a Bowie impersonator. I had a chance to meet the chef Bob and talk BBQ. Bob does excellent ribs, brisket and Turkey. I went with the Brisket Dip sandwich with Pepper Jack cheese...a good choice! Hand cut fries are an excellent side.

Tried out the bbq brisket sandwich and the brisket it self. It was okay. Far far from the best I’ve had. For the price I expected a nice smoked flavorful brisket but that wasn’t the case. Brisket had no smoke rings and lacked flavor. I didn’t bother trying the potato salad and Mac n cheese that came with. They simply didn’t look appealing. Thank you.
