Wow! Just got back from Gerardo’s . . .again! It’s time to give credit where credit is due. Every time we come to Spokane, I urge my wife to have lunch there. Every time we are greeted by a smiling, very bilingual young lady who patiently waits while my wife decides just what to have this time. (It’s inspiring to hear someone communicate with customers and the kitchen switching fluidly between languages sometimes all in the same sentence.) I am a sucker for their adobada super burrito. The cook always seems to have a magic way with the food. Simple, not fancy or flowery but very substantial in portion, perfectly seasoned and just about as real as it can get in every way. To top it off, the atmosphere is also very real. Quite unlike most sterile looking Mexican fast food places around town, this is more like what it’s like in a family run taqueria. Love it! It can get pretty busy at times as many locals from all over the spectrum seem to gravitate there. And in closing . . . Salsas! Not your watered down vinegary “accompaniment” but in fact, an addition to the meal! Big, full flavored homemade salsas in varying degrees of flavor profile and intensity. Congrats! You are appreciated.

Here for the Taacos!

Pretty good Mexican food.

The chain as a whole has come to favor getting your food with a quickness instead of focusing on quality, presentation and service, but the authentic Mexican food feels they once had still echos.

Take a look at how many times the health inspectors have found rats in the kitchen.
The thought doesn't bother me too much but the location downtown is the lead offender in Spokane for rats in restaurants.

Not to put the place down, I'll still gladly eat there. Food is pretty good and relatively affordable.

Overall: 7.2/10

I just moved to the area. I was looking for a place with a good breakfast burrito and found this place. The burrito was huge lots of meat as I got a sausage burrito. Ingredients were hot. The only reason I have the food 4 instead of 5 stars is because I prefer sausage links in my burrito and I think they use patties chopped up. Still good but not my favorite. The service was great and the salsa bar is amazing and chips and salsa are free. The variety of salsa was great. The creamy green one was just the right amount of spicy. I’m definitely coming back to try different dishes but I give an A to the breakfast burritos.

Update March 2025: I return to Gerardos several times a year for the chicken enchilada plate. They have the best in town! I really need to go more often and try other menu items instead of waiting for cravings for enchiladas to hit. The staff is friendly and attentive. My earlier comment about the beef burrito and quesadilla turned out to not be the food I got at all. It was me. My taste buds were changing and nothing beef tasted good to me then. Give them a try!

The chicken enchiladas were really good. Can't say I'm a fan of the beef burritos or beef quesadilla. I will be back for more chicken enchiladas.

The gal at the front was amazing. I know it's not her fault, but it was ridiculous how they were out of everything on the kids menu, no bread for tortas, no sopes and something else so I finally asked what was still available. The guac and pico de gallo was supposed to come on the side for 2 items ordered and we got nothing. My burrito has nothing but meat in it. My sons nachos had maybe a scoop of beans, which makes me wonder if they ran out and why my burrito came with just the meats.
Food did taste good, but it would have been nice to have been told of other items they were out. I spent $50 and threw the burrito away. 😔
