We just had the pleasure of enjoying BJ Wentker’s Friday fish fry and want to recommend it to all! Delicious fried cod(although baked was an option), crispy potato pancakes , wonderful coleslaw and warm rye bread….best we’ve had in years! The old fashioned was terrific too!
Great food and friendly atmosphere!
Ordered two fish fry last Friday. Fish was cold and breading was way overcooked dark brown. Very disappointing.

We hadn't been to this restaurant for a few years. It was a wonderful experience this Friday evening. The bartender & waitress were excellent & attentive to our needs. My husband had the pan-seared salmon w pesto, wild rice & French onion soup & I had the scallops with a crisp salad, wild rice & asparagus. Our meals were perfection! We asked our chef, Paulie, to come to the table so we could compliment the excellent meal preparation. The atmosphere is charming & well worth your time to stop for a meal & a few drinks. We,d love to try one of their sandwiches next time. We will definitely go back in the near future.

I am honestly so shocked by our experience tonight. My family and I parked alongside the building, thought it was closed because no bar lights were on and no cars on the side street. We get to the door, had to be helped in by a worker who said have a seat wherever and at first glance there wasn't a single soul other than my family and this worker. I said do you have highchairs, she said oh I'm back of the house, that's front of the house to know that. So we proceeded to go find a low table top in the back of the restaurant & after waiting for 3 minutes or so, a waitress came out. We greeted each other, I asked the same question. She looked around the restaurant and finally found one. We sat. She said I'll grab waters. I asked what the specials were, she explained the Friday night fish fry and said since it's dead we had the option of having fried or baked perch. She then went ahead and let us know that the perch was from Lake Michigan, but then redacted that statement and said she had forgotten where they were from. Then she went as far as to tell us the shrimp on the menu was bought from the store, that day, by her and they were huge but only because the food service truck didn't have them in. She returned with our waters and asked if we wanted any Appetizers or drinks, I asked if they had a cocktail list. She picks up the small table menu and said here's a wine list and if you're looking for anything else their bartender can come up with any concoction, and that she was creative. I ordered a titos, cran & sprite. My husband asked what's on tap, she said nothing on tap because the lines were cut by the beer vendor and could only rattle off about 5 beers. My husband settled on a Heineken. My son got a kiddie cocktail. And didn't ask if our toddler needed a drink, fine. She left and in that moment we said we couldn't eat there. My anxiety was going up just thinking of the $100 + we were about to spend on food, when the service within 15 minutes of being there was honestly so awful. They had THREE workers on a Friday night, in WI. Wild. We asked to pay our tab, made an excuse as to why were leaving because it eas too embarrassing to say to the waitress the real reason. We hand her a credit card, she returns and says it's on the house because the credit card machine isn't working, and it's just going around in circles because of the internet and something about the service industry. Just a disappointment. We had no cash. Otherwise we would of left enough to cover the drinks and tip. What would of happened if we ate our meals and couldn't pay because the credit card machine was down. The ending that scenario, are endless. Disappointed is an understatement. Not trying to be rude, but the owners of the restaurant should honestly close down. It's not business minded, at all. The first 5 minutes of coming into a restaurant are crucial. I worked at a super club myself, and worked in the service industry for years. I knew better. Maybe others have had great experiences there and maybe tonight was a one off, but for us it was embarrassing for them & us having to walk out.

Thursday night with a friend. Drinks were very good, food -amazing! Chef recommended I try the scallops over mushroom ravioli with browned butter. Absolutely amazing! The scallops were perfectly seared, the ravioli was delicious and tender and the butter sauce was rich and flavorful. My friend had the rib eye steak with potatoes and Brussels sprouts, she could only eat half! We will go again!

Don't waste your time, there were 4 very very drunk people at the bar (was 6:30 on a Friday night), no one to seat you, waitress had a hard time hearing our orders due to drunk people at the bar. Food was terrible, fish fry had water sitting on plate and the toughest shrimp in our scampi, was literally not edible. This place used to be so nice and has so much potential, it's very sad actually.
