El Alegre Mexican Restaurant

This has to be the best authentic Mexican food around. The food is made fresh, bright and early every day. The owner and family are very welcoming, humble and kind. The owner is a top notch mixologist and ensures every drink recipe is perfected. Try a margarita, a steak taco, fajitas, or even a steak sandwich. They have a wide selection of tequilas and whiskey/bourbons, too! They have a sister business, two doors done, which is El Alegre Bar and Event Center. Check them both out!

I grew up in a Mexican American home, having home cooked Mexican food long before it was trendy. I’m also adept in the kitchen myself. I’ve lived in San Diego, visited Mexico… I’m just saying, I’m rarely impressed with Mexican restaurants. I’m telling you this is the best Mexican restaurant I’ve been to in Wisconsin. The food is fantastic, the people are lovely, and as a bonus, they have a huge selection of premium tequilas. Highly recommend the “Al Pastor” meat option. The marinade is flavorful and spicy even without salsa.

Being in a strip mall on the outskirts of DeForest, I was not expecting this level of quality, but El Alegre has never disappointed me (and I come here often!) Visit this place, support this family run business!

What a great place. Stopped here on our way to lacrosse. Had the Mexicano burrito and enchiladas. Very good. Their salsa is really good-good flavors.

This Mexican food was absolutely fantastic. Their steak tacos with onion and cilantro was absolutely amazing!!! The service was wonderful and quick. Their salsa was one of the best I have ever ever ever tasted!!! 😋 The strawberry margarita was mixed perfectly. I just cannot say enough how good and authentic this food really was. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Can't say enough about the chorizo queso, chicken chimichangas, authentic tacos. We've worked our way around the menu and always enjoy our meals here...and the jalapeno margaritas are delish!

Not sure how anyone could rate this place lower than a 5! Maybe they came during peak hour and it was slow? Not sure.
The food is absolutely incredible, service is friendly, place is clean, no super loud music playing.
I'm only sorry I don't live closer, I would come more often!

El Alegre margarita and coconut margarita were on point so we had 2 more each. Queso fundido aracherra was not skimping on meat. Carne asada dinner was bomb and with nopales. El Alegre nachos especially the pastor was killer. Left full and happy. Will definitely be returning. We got there at opening so the mood was mellow. Next time we'll sit at the bar. Great friendly service never waited long for anything.

Our 1st time there we did not know what to expect. But due to the reviews we figured we would give it a try. And I must say that we were not disappointed. This is now on our list of places to hit when we want Mexican food. As a matter fact we went again tonight taking a friend and her daughter there for her Birthday. So that make 2 times in a week. And again we were not disappointed. So we would definitely recommend.
