We hired Karen to make our wedding cakes (regular wedding cake plus a half-sheet) this past July. As opposed to a number of other bakers we looked at, she was easy to work with and didn't try to up-sell us, charge for a cake tasting or get pretentious. The cakes she made for us were beautiful and elegant and tasted great. I'm pretty sure a good number of our guests had more than one piece. Her prices were more than fair. She delivered the cakes and assembled them at the venue for a reasonable price. We (and our guests) were very pleased with the appearance and taste of the cakes. And the price includes a small cake for your one-year anniversary (instead of eating an old freezer-burned piece of cake you saved from your wedding day). We highly recommend Karen.

Called multiple fancy places, attempting to have a cake made for mothers day. It was a blue ribbon award winning cake from a Netflix show my wife loves. I had almost completely given up when I came across Karen. I was unable to reach her by phone so I went to her shop, which I recommend instead of calling. I met her explained what I was trying to have made, and without pause said she would be able to make it and to email her a picture of the cake for reference along with the recipe. When I picked it up, it looked exactly as it had on the show, it was perfect. The flavor and texture of the cake was on point as well, all for an extremely reasonable price in my opinion as well, for a specialty made cake. Skip all the specialty cake shops in Madison. They are pricey and most if not all will not make a cake that they have never made on request, i was told by multiple places that they do jot do that. Just go to Karen. That woman is a cake god, I promise you, you wont be disappointed.
The cake i requested to have made, was a 3 tier layerd banana creampie cake.

I cannot recommend Karen highly enough! Not only is she an expert baker who takes great pride in making delicious goodies, but she is also extremely sweet and caring. She goes out of her way to accommodate anything you could need or want. We've had birthday cakes which have all turned out beautifully, and we stop by regularly for cookies and treats. Karen does an excellent job with everything!

I just moved to DeForest and wanted to buy locally. I saw good reviews for Karen the Cake Lady and decided to give one of her cakes a try when I needed to get a cake for my 96 year old pal, Bob. I know that he LOVES chocolate, so my goal was to request as much chocolate as possible. Karen’s shop is in a quaint older house by the library in DeForest. It smelled delightful when I walked in and I could see Karen working in the kitchen. She looked exactly as I pictured her. I told her what kind of cake I needed and she understood the assignment. When I picked it up, it was a BEAUTIFUL symphony of chocolate. When Bob took his first bite, a smile of satisfaction spread across his face. After he was through, he said “now that’s what a cake should taste like”. He also told me that he couldn’t wait for tomorrow so he could have some more and offered to arm wrestle me for the left overs. 😋
Karen is so wonderful to work with! I ordered several dozen cupcakes for my baby shower, and was very happy with everything. The cupcakes looked beautiful and tasted amazing, and her prices are very fair. I also tried her sugar cookies and cinnamon rolls - both also incredible! It was a pleasure to work with Karen and have her bake our wedding cake, grooms cake, and 300+ cupcakes along with a few gluten free options. The cakes were moist and all flavors were delicious. Our wedding cake was French vanilla cake, raspberry filling, and buttercream frosting and the grooms cake was chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. For cupcakes, the cookies and cream was definitely the crowd favorite. She brought her own stands for us to use and displayed the desserts beautifully. Everything was very reasonably priced as well. I was a very anxious bride and she was very calm, patient, and reassuring. I highly recommend you book her for your big day or any other cake needs.
