Arrived excited. Left disappointed.I don't like to leave unfavorable reviews, but today's experience was unbelievably bad. We arrived a little after 1pm and had nearly the whole place to ourselves. While the greeting and drink orders were done promptly, after our food order was placed we couldn't flag our server down for anything. After 30 minutes we went to the bar to buy a beer. After 60 minutes we asked how much longer on our food, because the table next to us arrived, ordered, and ate during that time. Our table was not even glanced at during that hour. 5 minutes later our side salad came, and 20 minutes later five of the plates arrived. My meal showed up 10 minutes after that. The food was enjoyable, but overall our lunch took TWO HOURS. As a former server, I know that orders get misplaced and things happen, so my complaint is that no one cared that we were there, no one was interested in paying us any attention, and no one felt bad about our service. We did receive 25% off our bill. Thanks for that, I guess. We love the concept and atmosphere and are very disappointed by today's experience. I sincerely hope that it was an anomaly.
We headed to Big Boy, eager to finally try the restaurant. We had checked the website for their hours, etc. but when we arrived there, the restaurant was closed and we had to go sit outside in 90 degree weather at the bier garden, listening to a too loud, bad singer. Very small menu and not at all what we were wanting or expecting. We had no idea where else to go.
Our Mom was a waitress forever at Marc's Big Boy downtown Milwaukee. She recently passed, so our family decided to have the post-burial lunch at the only Big Boy we could! We loved all the memorabilia & the food took us back to our childhoods. The Fish & Chips was almost exactly as I remember and they even have the Tomato & Spice dressing for my Fries! The hot fudge sundae to top it off was just perfect! It was a great experience & we will be back!
Nostalgia! Great food! Easy parking! This place has it all. I haven't had Big Boy food in 15 years so when I saw the sign, you bet I made a point to follow my taste buddies. There was memorabilia all over the place to remind me of my youth while Patsy Cline crooned over the sound system. While I don't think we will make a point to drive here for a meal since 2 hours is quite a drive, we will definitely keep it in mind for the future when we get down here again.
Disappointing, The big boy was very bland, and the menu was hard to read. They also uncharted $2.95 for onion rings that were not clearly marked. Don't waste your time and money
Great place to unwind and go back to your childhood. If you want something different they have a full German menu too. The bar is very.good as well. I highly recommend a visit to Wisconsin Big Boy.
Went on a Wednesday at dinner time. It was a suggestion on Google maps of near by restaurants. Was very excited to see there was one still around. Very fun place. Colorful, full of great camera ops. My old man and I outside of anything were glad to be out with each other. This helped with the amount of patience needed. The wait for a table in this empty establishment was 15 mins. The wait for service after being sat was 24 mins. The menu prices where capable of giving heart attacks and the wait for the under cooked burger and burnt fries at $12 was 28 mins. All while in an empty restaurant. During our long sit at the booth we watched 4 groups of ppl wait to be seated, never aknoeleged for 10-15 mins while staff walked by several times. Thay all walked out. A truck driver made sure he informed an employee of his disati faction before he also left. Will never return or recommend. Sad to see for such a great childhood memory.
Great service and the food was good too! The interior is decorated very nicely with nostalgic ads, I think they were nostalgic. I don't remember what the commercials and interiors of Big Boy restaurants from the 80s were like.
It was like traveling back in time. The Classic Big Boy Burger was as I remember. Maybe even better. Fresh bun, properly cooked meat and crispy French Fries with skin. Waitress was very friendly yet not pushy. Knew exactly whrn to check on us. We traveled all the way from Kenosha to have a Big Boy Burger. Had a NA Beer we never heard of. It was a lighter beer with great flavor.Worth the trip.
Honest review: Chocolate shake was good but very small for the price. French onion soup used a different recipe than the previous regime that made it too salty and a little over seasoned. The burger (picture included) had a good presentation. I was told it would be cooked medium but unfortunately it was well done. The bottom bun disintegrated from grease and as a result I had to use a fork, so I only ate about half. The best way for me to describe the food would be that it reminded me a lot of McDonald's (at least the burger did). It was also around $60 for 2 people. Server was friendly. Atmosphere was too quiet or something though so it was off-putting for me. I will say that the restaurant was very clean. Overall, Big Boy failed to meet my expectations (but that doesn't mean that it won't meet yours and is definitely still worth a try to support a local business). Bear in mind that these are only my personal opinions and to take them with a grain of salt. I will not return, however.

First time here. The ambiance was excellent just like the food. My children and I enjoyed the food. Will definitely come back.
So me and my Girl went here tonight and I'm in heaven.. It's just like I remember back 27 years ago.. I had the Super Big Boy and Rings, she had the baked Cod and it was FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!.. We will be back... Only very Minor Complaint I have is the bun needs to be able to hold up the Burger Better it falls apart way to easily.. But that isn't going to deter me from Coming again.. Great atmosphere you won't be disappointed..
Great experience. Reminded me of my younger days.’50’s music. Fireplace. Great service. Fun atmosphere. Biergarten next door associated with Big Boy.
Stopped in with friends, place was empty, now I know why, food was bad, drinks bad, prices high, NOTHING like a real Big Boy…
The staff are all very friendly and accommodating, and the food is pretty delicious! The bar has great options, and the general atmosphere of the diner is very enjoyable. I've eaten here many times now. Always great to come back to!Only real negative thing I can say about the food is the quality of the buns. The buns are too fragile, and the bottom bun is especially prone to disintegrating within the first few bites, especially with larger burgers. I honestly recommend eating the burgers upside down to help reduce this effect. The Super Big Boy's bottom bun doesn't last two bites otherwise with all that weight.Great restaurant, great location, fairly decent prices, delicious food, but the buns may need some attention.Oh, and their coffee in the merch area is a hidden gem. I supply my workplace with it.
