I find myself going out of my way to stop in at Backwoods. It always has a great atmosphere with good people. They do a lot of their own smoked meats, which have been amazing. I recommend the house-smoked chicken wings. Sometimes I've been in and they've done smoked Cornish hens. The customer service is always good. The bartender or server always makes sure I'm doing well at the appropriate times.

We were searching for a good, family restaurant to eat at on our camping trip in Hayward at the K.O.A. We looked through all our options and took a chance with Backwoods Bar & Grill. We are so happy we did so. The food was rich and delicious. It didn't leave you feeling like other bar food, where your stomach is usually wrenching from grease, but instead satisfied our appetites and our taste buds. We were happily surprised to see other families eating there, and the staff was extremely attentive and friendly. We would definitely recommend Backwoods Bar & Grill to anyone visiting the area!

Very fun atmosphere. Matt the bartender is amazing and such a hoot. Went to several of the local bars for the bachorlette party but Backwoods was the best!

Brisket sandwich and fries good. Steak sandwich good. Ordered medium rare was too done. Good taste tho. Rings good. Very clean nice bar. Cami is a very friendly bartender.

These were "brisket tacos" from backwoods. Iceberg lettuce, tomato on one of them, no cheese, no onion, cold meat. All cold. My son ate one to be a good sport but gave up because it was really just an iceberg taco. It had BBQ sauce on the side but somehow that would make this even worse. Wife's steak sandwich was raw and had a tendon running down the middle making it impossible to eat in a sandwich. $75 tab and nobody was happy. This is an edited review, it was 5 stars since they opened because everything has been very good. wouldn't trust the new cook with kraft Mac and cheese.

We decided to have dinner here a second time as the food and service were very good last time. This time it was Veteran's Day, November 11, 2023. One of us was a veteran and he wore his veteran hat. As a result he was given 3 free beers. The other 3 of us had to buy our drinks. I had the Smoked Brisket Street Tacos (a specialty here according to the menu). I opted for the horseradish version instead of the BBQ sauce. Three large tacos for $13. Very good, except I didn't taste any horseradish. I told our server and she promptly brought some for me. My wife had the Shrimp dinner. All was good once again. I do wish they had a better selection of craft beers here, especially porters or other dark beers. The closest was the Alaskan Amber, okay bot not a dark beer. The only other issue with this place is the hard-to-sit-at tables. They are high tops with solid wood sides and do not allow you to get close to your food to eat. Service is great here and the vibe here is pleasant.
