We attended the New Year’s Eve Casino Royale event hosted by The Maxwell Mansion, and it was a truly stellar experience. Each area of the hotel was elegantly appointed with casino-themed décor and buzzed with energy and excitement. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a complimentary cocktail and provided with a schedule of the evening’s events.
The outside garden geodome tent was filled with enthusiastic guests enjoying blackjack and poker tables, along with a lively craps table that kept the excitement going. The bars throughout the mansion did not disappoint. Walking down the outdoor stairs to access the speakeasy—using the secret password—felt like stepping back into another era. The underground bar was wonderfully nostalgic, and the bartender masterfully served the best Sidecar we’ve ever had.
By the end of the evening, the dance floor was packed as everyone rang in the New Year together.
Our overnight stay was in the Carriage House (Room 15), which was both elegant and inviting. The queen bed was incredibly comfortable, and the sheets were exceptionally soft—perfect after a night of celebration.
Owners Monica and Luke Pfeifer truly go above and beyond to provide their guests with a memorable experience and a relaxing stay. We will definitely be booking another visit to The Maxwell Mansion.
I recently attended an event at Maxwell Mansion and we had such a great time! The back patio and apothecary bar were perfect for the fun in and out access, awesome ambiance and decor. Our group really enjoyed the cozy outdoor lounges and fire! The drinks were so good, the hospitality was on point and the vibe was amazing! I highly recommend having your event at Maxwell!! You won’t be disappointed!
Beware of contract! We booked the venue on 10/11/25 for a wedding on 10/3/2026. On 11/20/25, I had to painfully write that the groom canceled the wedding, just 40 days after signing the contact. My daughter was, of course, heartbroken. I was told that the contract was non-refundable but they were making an exception and giving me back 1/2 my deposit. I am still out $2,000 because they claimed funds were already allocated toward things for the event. I just don’t think this is morally right, therefore, I cannot recommend them. Other vendors were so kind to grant 100% back, given the timeline and how far the wedding was scheduled for.
Disappointing Stay for What Could’ve Been a Perfect Anniversary Getaway.
We decided on a last-minute anniversary trip close to home and chose Maxwell Mansion, thinking it was a sure thing. We’d been there before for cocktails over the summer and absolutely loved the atmosphere and drinks, so we were excited to finally stay for a weekend.
We upgraded to the Bridle Suite for the king bed, since the other rooms were all queens. For the price point and boutique reputation, we expected high-end quality and service. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t live up to that expectation.
The room had a musty odor from the moment we walked in. The Apple TV remote only worked if you stood directly under the television, and the steam shower worked once before flashing an error message for the rest of the weekend. We also found an opened Gas-X package in the bedside drawer and an empty Zyn puck on the floor by the bed- small things, but they really made the room feel unclean.
On our last day, we even noticed ants in the bed. We immediately let the staff know upon checkout. Despite following up at checkout and completing their post-stay survey, no one ever responded or followed up.
For a property that markets itself as a luxury, boutique destination- and charges accordingly- we expected much better attention to detail and customer care.
On a positive note, the craft cocktails are still incredible. They remain the highlight of Maxwell Mansion, and they’re the reason we booked our stay in the first place. Unfortunately, everything else about our overnight experience fell far short of expectations.
Totally LOVE this place! I had visited the outside area before in the summer but first time in the speakeasy below. So so cool. Amazing ambience. Spectacular drink with fantastic people serving.
The Halloween Party was awesome and one of the best we've ever attended. It was well decorated and had a great DJ. Lines were a little long to get drinks. Maybe one more bar to order from or a quick can only/ready to drink type spot to order at could help with the lines. It was a really fun event and would definitely attend again.
Not at all what I expected, I would say this location which does not allow kids is very unique. Very well stocked bar with interesting seating to say the least. On site speakeasy, was open; good thing we had the password! An authentic doorman behind locked door only allowed patrons entry with a password. Great experience!
We loved our stay at the Maxwell Mansion!! We stayed in room #17 and it was huge, could easily sleep 3 and we loved the decorations. The staff were friendly, accommodating and amazing. We would book this place again in an heartbeat
All of the staff were absolutely amazing. This is a definite must if you're looking for an adult only get away. The relaxing areas from the fire pit areas to the apothecary to the heated domes, was just want we needed.
Wow, this place was fantastic. It took us back in time. We felt like we were royal owners or living in the roaring twenties. The rooms were comfortable and made us feel like home. The drinks were all top shelf. The food was amazing. The grounds were in tip top condition. The entertainment was superb. And an amazing thing is it sits one block from the beautiful Lake Geneva. We would highly recommend it to couples looking for something new and different. Special congratulations to both Luke and Monica the new owners. You did an amazing job here. Luke, we met you in Sheboygan at the Harbor Winds Hotel. We recommend this fantastic place to all my military veteran friends around the world. We will return.

Neat boutique hotel with different themed rooms. Well maintained, clean and friendly. Loved the speakeasy and apothecary bars. Nice bourbon and scotch selection.
Great place for a quick cocktail and appetizer!
From booking my reservation to the time we left, we had a wonderful experience. I booked a room which was super easy to do. We stayed in the stables rm 4 and it was so spacious and comfortable! I loved the plush comfortable bed. My husband enjoyed the steam shower! The charm amd elegance of the property was just wonderful which is why we booked to stay here and so that we could do photos on site.
When I booked my reservation, I had explained that it was our 1st wedding anniversary and I knew the speakeasy was closed Sundays, but i was hoping to potentially get a photo shoot down there. They were (Jen I believe) SO nice and accommodating of that! They even had our room ready way ahead of 4 o'clock which was so nice! When we arrived in our room, there was a card wishing us a happy anniversary and a bottle of chilled bubbly on the bed! This was so sweet! Everyone who worked at the mansion was so kind and nice. Erin was so friendly and easy going while we were taking our photos in the speakeasy and when we approached her on site!
Juan and Rafi from The Apothecary were so welcoming and helpful with ordering drinks. They gave us some history about the mansion and they were just upbeat and friendly. The drinks are different but so good! They put a lot of work into their drinks/menus and it shows! They are beautiful looking and delicious tasting! The hibiscus highball, hibiscus mule, smores old fashioned and espresso martini drinks were fantastic!
Just an fyi- any of their flatbreads can be gluten free!! I didnt realize this until after we had had dinner off site.. but good to know for next time!
Location is super convenient to down town! We went to egg harbor for breakfast and it was delicious. Food was clean and fresh and not greasy/old.. it tasted fresh and it was such quick service! Their gf cinnamon roll was so good!
Thank you to the staff of the maxwell mansion for making our 1st anniversary as husband and wife a memorable one!
We look forward to actually staying here. Stopped by for a drink and fell in love with the place. In and outside absolutely priceless! Friendly informative staff. Great views and storie everywhere!
My husband and I got married at the Maxwell Mansion this August and we couldn't have been happier with this venue! The grounds were beautifully in bloom, and the mansion itself is so unique and fun. We got some beautiful photos that we will certainly cherish for a lifetime! We had so many of our guests tell us they loved this venue as well, and that they loved having the options to enjoy the different spaces in the mansion!
The customer service we had from all of the MM staff was great. Particularly the event coordinator, Sarah. We had some crazy weather going on that day for our outdoor ceremony and reception, and Sarah was extremely on top of things, making sure everything still went smoothly with having to pivot a bit. It was definitely something that made our day as great as it was. Our guests certainly noticed all she did, and we appreciated her so much!
The rooms are so beautiful and we loved having the bridal suite + Stables 1 as our getting ready spaces. We will definitely come back again for a weekend getaway!
