We recently visited and found it to be a unique experience with room for growth. The brewery itself is clean & modern, though its atmosphere felt a bit felt sterile compared to other breweries. The menu features a strong focus on sours, which might be perfect for dedicated sour fans, but for those who enjoy a wider variety, it may feel a bit limiting. It was surprisingly quiet during our visit, with only one other couple in the taproom. We’re excited to see how they evolve. It’s worth a visit, especially if you’re a sour enthusiast.
Sabbatical Brewing Company is an absolute must-stop if you're in Manitowoc! This place is a hidden gem right in the heart of town, with a cozy and inviting vibe that’s perfect for any occasion, whether you’re hanging out with friends or looking for a more low-key spot. The interior nails that industrial-meets-rustic look, with exposed brick, wooden accents, and warm lighting that make you feel right at home. They’ve even got outdoor seating that’s pet-friendly, so you can enjoy their amazing brews while soaking in the surroundings during those warmer months.
When it comes to the beer, Sabbatical really knows what they’re doing. Their selection is top-notch, with a rotating lineup that mixes the classics with some seriously creative new brews. Whether you’re into hoppy IPAs, smooth stouts, or something lighter, they’ve got you covered. The seasonal offerings are especially cool, often featuring local ingredients that bring out the best flavors of the region. You can tell that every beer is brewed with a lot of care and attention to detail.
The service here is just as impressive as the beer. The staff is super knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what they do. They’re more than happy to help you find the perfect beer for your taste, and their enthusiasm really adds to the overall experience.
One of the things I love most about Sabbatical is how connected they are to the community. They’re always hosting events like live music, trivia nights, and beer tastings, and they’re big on supporting local causes. It’s a spot that’s beloved by both locals and visitors, and it’s easy to see why.
Overall, Sabbatical Brewing Company is a must-visit if you’re a craft beer fan. The welcoming atmosphere, killer beer selection, and fantastic service make it a standout in the region. Whether you’re a Manitowoc local or just passing through, make sure to stop by—you won’t regret it!
Very contemporary styling. Nice place to bring your children. They off offered water or juice boxes for the kids. Lots of interesting beers. Very nice staff. Thank you for the nice experience. We'll be back.
All the beers we tried were very good. Got a couple 4 packs to take home. Our bartender kimberly was very friendly and conversational. Will definitely be back.
I visited with a tour through the Lifelong Learning Institute of UW Green Bay. It was pleasantly cool inside in spite of the 90 degree temperatures outside. We learned about the history of the building first used by Oriental Milling Company as well as the history of the name and brewery. I had a glass of Osuld's Obsession, an IPA, and it was amazing! We could go into, and look at the portion of the building that was untouched since the milling days which was very interesting as well as dusty. It was worth it to me to see the old architecture and step back into the past. Some folks stayed for a sampling of beers, cider and seltzer also produced at Sabbatical (like on sabbatical, taking a break from work). I listened while I tried a couple other beers to my liking. I bought a four pack of Osuld's to go. Did I say this place has great atmosphere and beers? Definitely!
Toured the distillery and sampled some beer. Good micro brewery.
Great place
Unassuming building that's home to some good beer.
It was a fun place to stop for the afternoon. The beer was decent, but nothing wowed me. We did like the outdoor patio and playing bags in the sunshine. Even though they don't serve food, I didn't like that dogs were not allowed inside.
We discovered Sabbatical Brewing Co at Point Beach State Park's first ever Shipwreck Sipfest....and we loved it so much, we had to top by on the way home to stock up! We loved everything they were offering for the tastings, especially Bernie Mittens and Canoodling!
When we got to the taproom the staff was super friendly and helpful as we looked for to go beer. We will definitely be back!

Great beer! Two putt tea is the best around! The staff is great and knowledgeable! A great indoor and outdoor space- family friendly! One of our favorite places in Manitowoc county!
Stopped in on a whim with family and impressed. They have a great selection, and the team member working was kind, funny, and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend Sabbatical Brewing if you are in Manitowoc.
Always a great stop with tasty beers and friendly service.
I don't understand why people are not shoulder to shoulder at this bar waiting for a drink. Excellent beer of multiple types: Emilioooo Nitro Brown Ale, Roundabout Red Irish Red Ale, the Seeds of Fruition sour line are all so good!!!!! We have been here multiple times and everything we've tried has run from good to great! Sabbatical is well worth the hour drive for us. We'll see you soon!
Great Beer!
