Canary Coffee Bar

Had a perfect cappuccino here this morning—what more should anyone ask? How about a friendly barista and a sunny ambiance even on a rainy day? The saved terrazzo floor is pretty fantastic as well.

Walking in, total confusion. Unclear where to order. I asked the woman behind the coffee bar and she murmured “we’ll get you”. Then the owner (?) took our orders with an attitude. I don’t understand why people who don’t like people work in the service industry. My iced mocha was ok but my friend’s coffee was not good. Sorry, but at least Starbucks workers are accountable to a greater corporate ethos, and I always know what I’m getting there.

OVER PRICED, RUDE, and PREJUDICED. Granted, I don't mind paying for coffee, teas, and baked goods that are a little higher. I work right across the street so I'm in here often. Cut to the chase, I noticed when I'm with my white coworkers, the service, magically is so much better. Now i have never had any issues or slick remarks from any of the women. But the owner i think, and a heavy set guy, gives me crap all time. The micro-aggression towards me is very uncalled for. My very last visit, yesterday, I waited behind two people who were before me to get a bakery item. Mind you, I have not said a word to anyone. I didn't speak to no one or say anything under my breath. So after he's done with the lady in front of me he goes to the side and assist a lady who was eating and drinking inside. She looks at me and then says oh I was already here. But you already have your drink and you should be waiting in line behind me to pay. But I didn't say anything I just looked at her with a smirk like okay. Then the heavyset Guy starts talking shit about being the only one there. Now everybody's looking at me and mind you I still haven't said a word! I give him my order I have never seen someone aggressively grab a croissant toss it in the bag like he was angry. He didn't tell me the price he just held his hand out for my credit card, I gave it to him he swiped it gave me my card back press whatever on the tablet and walked away. Didn't give me a chance to look at my receipt asked me if I need a receipt or allow me to tip if I wanted to. Again I didn't say a word. I will no longer be visiting or bringing my Minnesota staff here.

One of the best lattes I’ve ever had. Their coffee bean is roasted to perfection. Barista has expert barista technique. Extremely creamy and delicious!

A wonderful café. The staff and drink was great. The atmosphere was clean, and inviting. I could tell the staff built good rapport with regular customers. To new customers, including myself, they gave a good recommendation and were genuinely interested in getting to know me. If I ever go back to Milwaukee I’ll definitely stop by.

Canary is the Venteux Brasserie Cafe of Milwaukee. I’ve returned many times. Very nice atmosphere in the late morning, and always very peaceful. Similarly to Discourse coffee, Canary has a very fun seasonal menu, playing with a few untraditional ingredients and flavors. I had the blueberry muffin and an oatmilk iced chai. They encourage dining in to reduce waste, even using reusable metal straws. With super nice staff, this may be one of the more personable cafes in milwaukee.

I stayed over at the Hyatt hotel and always prefer to visit this cafe over Starbucks. It has better coffee than Starbucks because I can actually taste the coffee. The cafe has lots of different coffee beans and does awesome latte art!

Unique coffee bar experience and it’s such a hidden gem. We had to order take out but it would be nice for dine in options. It’s kinda pricey for coffee but it’s worth it

We had the sweet potato and everything bagel croissants and the cinnamon roll muffin with a hot caramel latte and a chai latte. All of our beverages and pastries were absolutely delightful. This is the perfect place to study, work, or just grab a coffee!
