WOW - WOW - WOW. China Gourmet is a very inconspicuous little restaurant (it's quite big inside) with really no frills or over the top atmosphere situated right across the street from the Pabst Theater. We were in a hurry to get something to eat before catching the comedy show across the street and we stumbled across China Gourmet. Our server (unfortunately I didn't catch his name) was so kind when taking our order and fast fast fast with the service. I genuinely dislike when people say "this is the best..." or "this is the worst..." BUT this was absolutely the most flavorful Chinese food I have ever had. The menu choices, which there were a ton of, were nondescript and not unlike what you would find at almost any Chinese restaurant, BUT the flavor profiles were ridiculous. Something as simple as pan fried noodles and fried rice which are normally compliments to the meal could have easily been the main meal. So fresh and so delicious. I had Kung Pao Beef and the sauce was so savory, I literally took the serving spoon and finished it off like a soup. If you're in town or going to a show at the Pabst Theater, don't bother with all the other options that are flashy and fancy; go to China Gourmet for the delicious food and the wonderful service.

The experience was just very warm and welcoming. The food is very good, we had fried rice and noodles, and it was really tasty. The owner is very polite and respectful and makes you feel very welcomed.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at China Gourmet, and I must say it was an exquisite experience that exceeded the expectations for a family dinner spot this holiday evening. The menu offered a plethora of options to accommodate anyone's taste from vegetarian, beef, chicken, duck, seafood, and beyond. The staff was wonderful and being served by the owner was a treat in and of itself. He was courteous and helped me find the perfect dish --- which I will note was the best dish I've had at any asian cuisine restaurant.I ordered something extremely simple, chicken and broccoli. What made this dish stand out is that I asked for it very spicy and my request was met with no hesitation. The flavors were immaculate and the extra spiciness didn't take away from the dish (as it often does when a chef doesn't know what they're doing).A perfectly executed dining experience that rounded out our day trip in Milwaukee. Highly recommended.Edit: Our family while engrossed in conversation forgot our leftovers. In perfect timing, the aforementioned owner ran across the street to meet us at the elevators to the parking garage to bring this to our attention. We are so grateful because we had already been talking about the exciting lunch we would be having tomorrow with the excess food the large portions left us with.Another perfect example of the outstanding service of this restaurant.

Sigh. I miss the wok hei that Chef Gene wrapped the extraordinary Chinese food that flash fried out of his iron wok. I worked for his family restaurant growing up, and it is rare to encounter wok hei in any Chinese establishments here in Beertown. Shrimp in Lobster Sauce at its best is an unctuous umami dish rich with pork, egg ribbons, black beans and plump shrimp. The sauce is rich enough that you continue to lap it up long after your belly is filled. Sigh. China Gourmet charged $17.95 for a sad, thin, white broth with shrimp that they called Shrmp in Lobster Sauce but should be called Diet shrimp broth entree and evokes Wongs Wok menu. Shame shame shame on you. No flavor. Overpriced. 2 cups max. No wok hei. I think they zapped it in the microwave..... My Uber ordered totaled $60 including an unanticipated $10 service charge. This rip off meal also included 2 egg foo yong hockey pucks, and a sandy dry dish of Singapore noodles. I succumbed to ordering delivery because I was too tired after a long day. It's the same condition that causes me to order extremely expensive junk from infomercials at night. China Gourmet, shame on you for taking what is usually exquisite affordable cuisine and ripping off your customer.

The chef fried rice 9.0/10I got the level 4 spicy because the waiter would not let me order the level 5.The orange chicken medium spicy was good but heavy on the batter 6.0/10The waiter was kind enough to bring out the spicy oil to add to my dish. Overall it was wonderful service and great food. Also you don't have to use your hands to exit the bathroom
