We have traveled two hours to eat at Maders once/twice a year for 18 years. Sadly, our last time was last week. As the prices surged, the food selection shrunk (ex. Beef/mushroom Strudel and no rolls/bread with meal). The quality and taste of the food has also gone down. It seems like new cooks or new management have not upheld the old standards of quality. We often received gift cards for birthdays and holidays because people knew it was our favorite restaurant. I feel a sense of loss saying goodbye. On a positive note, the parking attendant was a pleasure.

It was absolutely amzing. We went for our anniversary. The scenery was extremely detailed from medieval times with all authenic decor. The food was top of the line and every bite was a delicious as the one before. The service was extremely nice, very attentive as well as informative about the dishes and history of the place. Was a very rememberable experience.

Old-school German spot with serious portions. The schnitzel came out crisp and golden, and the spaetzle was rich without being too heavy. Historic interior, steady crowd, and a menu that leans fully into tradition. Very Wisconsin in the best way.

We all had a great time at Maders! BIG BEERS, BIG PRETZELS! Service was nice and friendly, decor is old school German themed. Cool hallway of old movie stars autographed pictures on the way to the restrooms. Nice booths, plenty of room for large events, if needed.

My goodness how the great have fallen…
After winding up in Milwaukee unexpectedly one afternoon, my wife and I decided to try Maders for a late lunch on Friday.
My wife chose their luncheon special, from which she chose onion soup and Wiener schnitzel with German potato salad.
The soup was cold and tasteless, and after additional heating was slightly warmer but equally tasteless.
The Wiener schnitzel was irregularly composed with PORK and not with its traditional ingredient, VEAL, as most recipes would normally dictate.
She additionally found a side of German potato salad tepid, over-dressed and equally inedible.
I chose the Friday ‘fish fry’ and received three cold, mushy, overly -battered cod fillets unworthy of a drive thru’s fish sandwich, a piece of lightly toasted rye bread ( which I suspect disguised its staleness) with no butter, coleslaw almost rising to the level of a truck stop salad bar, an ear of corn which was long-past its ‘use by’ date and French fries which were appallingly undercooked despite being returned to the kitchen TWICE.
While the waitstaff was gracious, they could not, however, outweigh the significantly sub-standard quality of the food they presented.
I remember the historic Maders as an important offering to Milwaukee’s restaurant scene.
Unfortunately it now appears only as a dusty, indifferent memorial to where special places exist only within the memories of our youth.

Recommended dishes: Tour of Germany
Very good foods, good services, and the most item i like was their Black Forest cake. The amount of liquor is perfect, the texture is smooth, sweet level is just right.
The meat from Tour of Germany is very tender and juicy, the amount can feed 3-4 people, especially if you do sharing.

Haven’t been there in 30 years. Still delicious. We got the Tour of Germany sampler which is meant for 2. But it actually is enough for 4 so be aware when ordering.

A classic German dining experience. The pork shoulder, or schweinhaxe, was for tender, Melt in your mouth, delicious. As good as I remember in Germany. I was disappointed that there were no dumplings with gravy but hopefully they will return. The boiled red potatoes were delicious with the pan juices.
The beef& barley soup was rich, hearty, but not heavy. I wish I could get the recipe it was that good.
Strawberry Schaumburg torte was light and sweet, just like my grandfather used to make them for me. Justin, our server, was truly outstanding. He made celebrating 40 years of friendship a memorable experience. Complimentary valet parking is included, and Rob has a great personality and various QR codes to tip if you don't carry cash.
Great establishment. Get there soon.

I took my wife out for an early dinner. Everything was authentic and very good. There are not many German restaurants left in Milwaukee. I am glad Mader's continues to thrive here.
