My go-to German restaurant in Milwaukee. The Knight's Bar is fantastic... great atmosphere. I usually sit at the bar and order dinner there. (The Hungarian goulash is out of this world)The long hallway in the back of the restaurant has pictures of all the celebrities that have dined there. Pretty fun to look at.I HIGHLY recommend Maders

We recently dined at Mader’s & overall it was an excellent experience. (If I could give it 4.5 stars I would.) I started with liver dumpling soup, which was delicious, & much to my surprise my granddaughter loved it! I then had salmon from the “lighter side” of the menu, it was delicious, perfectly prepared & served atop red bell pepper flavored spaetzle. My granddaughter said her chicken fingers & fries were the best she’s ever had!Our major letdown was the Apple strudel. Mader’s desserts have been wonderful in the past. This wasn’t! It was apples wrapped up in phyllo (think apple burrito) & baked. The apples were undercooked & didn’t have much flavor. The phyllo was so tough as to be almost inedible . We left most of it & ate the apples. My granddaughter stated the ice cream was delicious! My daughter and SIL enjoyed their German sampler platter & schwein schnitzel delicious. Our service was a little slow, but understandable as they were packed.

Stepping into Mader's feels, looks, and smells like you've traveled back in time to a beer hall or inn from Germany in ages long since passed. Excellent German beer selection, large carnivorous cuisines and sweet deserts to delight you and your family. A Milwaukee mainstay and must see.

I loved this place so much I had to come back later that week. Granted the reason I came back was to get my credit card that I had left there, but had I been hungry I would have gladly done a repeat of my dinner earlier in the week. I was just passing through Milwaukee with a colleague and he found this place. This is not just a culinary experience... be prepared to be immersed in a Bavarian environment that includes wall mounted weapons used in actual battle (so we were told), ornate decor, and servers in authentic costumes. Apparently this place has been in the family for 5 generations and I commend them for running the place in a manner that delights the customer. The menu reminded me of my visits to Austria and Germany. The portions were generous and my only disappointment was not having room for dessert (a rarity for me).

Partner took me her for my bday.Valet saidYou’re in for a treat!Yes it was a cool room/ restaurantBut I think it would have been cheaper to drive to chicago and go to medieval times. It makes me feel bad that my partner bought me 30$ Mac n cheese that’s was just kinda ok.A 15$ drink I think that was tiny and not very good either.I just imagine how many hours of minimum wage work it would take to afford that dinner and wonder if any of the waiters could even afford to eat a single thing where they work.Very expensive and idk not THAT coolNice but it being so expensive makes me not think it’s niceEspecially when the food isn’t phenomenalYou definitely pay for the room, not good food. Too expensive and the space didn’t justify it nor was it much of an experience (medieval times it actually an experience) other than I enjoyed time w my partner on my birthday, but I could have done that anywhere. Not many vegetarian optionsNo vegan optionsI probably will never go here again and I live down the street

Must go for the atmosphere! Good variety of food. There is a combination platter that lets you have a little of the major options. Have a look on the walls of the corridor leading to the WC, there are a lot of signed pictures from famous people.

This place has an old school German decor which is an experience in itself. The staff are friendly. I enjoyed the breaded pork (schnitzel) but was not a fan of the spatzle, it was very bland. It came with sauerkraut that was very tasty. The pretzel roll was amazing! I highly recommend, it is on the appetizer menu. Overall the rest of my party enjoyed their food, too.

Pricey but good German cuisine and dining ambience. We had the Rouladen and the Weiner Schnitzel and both were very good.

Unfortunately we only had a short stop at the bar. When I asked about the origins and history of the house, the friendly waitress gave me a booklet - thank you very much.I drank a wholesome “New Glarus” beer, which unfortunately is only available in the state of Wisconsin.
