Rise & Grind Cafe

I’m giving this restaurant one star because, unfortunately, the food did not meet my expectations. The grits were overcooked, the sausage was dry, and the toast was hard. On a positive note, the eggs were cooked to perfection and the coffee was standard.

While I was disappointed with my first visit, I’m open to giving this place another try in the future and sampling something else from the menu. Hopefully, my next experience will be more enjoyable.

I Got My Hungry-On!

Listen… when I say Rise and Grind is that spot, I mean it with my whole chest. Black-owned, soulful, and straight-up unforgettable. I pulled up on a chill morning and ordered the catfish and grits, scrambled eggs with cheese, and a fresh OJ—and let me tell you… that CATFISH? Baby. OMG. Crispy on the outside, seasoned to perfection, flaky and tender on the inside. It gave southern roots with a Midwest remix. Had me lowkey emotional.

Then I saw Grams come out the kitchen and I knew exactly what time it was. She had that “I been doing this since y’all was playing outside ’til the streetlights came on” energy. I already knew I was gon’ do my hot portions dirty. And did. LOL. Big back activities activated.

Now don’t roll in here thinking it’s fast food—this ain’t that. You gon’ wait a little bit, but trust me, greatness takes time. The vibes are smooth, the playlist was hitting (90s, early 2000 vibe), and the staff was friendly, professional, and welcoming. You can tell they love what they do and pour that energy into every plate.

The grits were creamy, not watery (thank God!), and paired with the catfish like they was born to be together. Eggs? Fluffy with just the right amount of cheese—no shortcuts here.

If you’re in Milwaukee and not tapping in with Rise and Grind, what are you really doing? This spot is Black excellence on a plate. Pull up, vibe out, eat good, and leave full in both belly and back. Salute to the whole team—y’all doing it right!

5’s all around This spot is highly recommended. I will be back for the Salmon Croquettes!

I came to this establishment twice now. They have a really great event call. WOW POETRY. I went in just to cleck it out. The Host Prince Daniel was super nice, funny & energetic. All the poets and singers were really good. The food was amazing. If I have one criticism. It's was kind of smokey. But I was assured it would be fixed in the summer. I will certainly be back. For the food & Poetry.

Turkey sausage tastes horrible, the breakfast potatoes was bogus salmon croquettes wasn’t done just all together no good first time only time .

Salmon coquettes are delicious! This is also a great for remote working.

Attended an event there and it was great. The service was awesome the atmosphere was lovely. The staff was excellent. The poetry night was just wonderful energetic & refreshing. I loved it.

Though we had to wait more than 30 minutes for our breakfast,
( it appeared that chef was working alone) the food and atmosphere was well worth the wait and worth every dollar spent.
Chef is very skilled.
My Food was delicious.
I had Salmon cake along with buttery grits a side of diced home fries, with beautiful soft scrambled flavourful and fresh eggs .
I ordered it to go but while my travel buddy was talking with the locals.
I sat down and ate most of it . ??
